Before joining this site and slightly thereafter, I didn’t care about these CAI and really just started understanding them enough to find out what you just basically wrote.

The main thing I don’t understand why people put them on our trucks is because of Hot Air Suck but I guess if you label something ‘Cold’ them people believe it? The newer monitoring devices are nice which helps us understand. The growl thing I understand, as well. Glad its working for you.

This thread is hysterical (outside of the OP's original question). Some cool mods. Questionable benefit beyond the fun in doing them. Oiled filters are for racing, not for daily's. Oiled filters let in a lot more silica than the traditional paper filter. That's what sand paper is made out of. Short term use in racing applications isn't a big deal as race engines aren't expected to survive a race, or a weekend, or a season, much less for 10,000 miles. If you want a truck to last a million miles, it's a problem. Even a properly maintained and oiled filter does not filter out silica as well as a paper filter. Lots of comparisons done that demonstrate this. I'll go with the science on this one and keep the paper.

Counter point: Haven't seen the study that shows cylinder or ring wear at 100k miles between engines that used paper vs. oiled, so not sure the long term effects.

Conclusion: you do you and share the results with the class

A CAI which should actually be labeled Short Ram Intake for our trucks is basically a enjoy it mod honestly. I’m sure most believe it is extremely beneficial beyond sound which it may be at certain RPMs. But I don't have a dyno. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Does anyone here have this hood? The underside looks like it would require a CAI of some sort as the air would completely bypass filtration of ducted into the “stock (non-TRD) CAI” box.

No need to be a smart ass. You could just say what you’re thinking.

Tell him what exactly? That when you remove the OEM air box lid the RK makes a tight seal on the OEM air box when the hood is closed and also vents out warmer air from the engine bay? Not rocket science....
