    Bought a 2001 tundra 2 weeks ago 170k miles....
got a code P0420 yesterday & looking for some tips. I will be installing a new downstream o2 sensor tonight ( checked both upstream & downstream ) & the downstream was covered in soot so i took the liberty of replacing it. I will update tonight if that fixes the issue. I know replacing both is smarter but the upstream sensor did look fine ( only white ).
Considering a cat a cleaner in case of clogged cat. Any tips appreciated definitely.

O2 sensors should be replaced in pairs per side ie upstream and downstream. You can’t tell anything by external appearance. Only use Denso OEM replacement sensors. The ones from local parts stores are Chinese shit and won’t work.

Exactly what is said above. Replace both, denso parts only and make sure they are direct replacement, no wire splicing.

Start here to deep dive on your truck if you haven't already: https://www.tundras.com/threads/so-you-wanna-buy-just-bought-a-1st-gen-tundra-eh.115928/

As you'll see in that thread, everything you probably need to know regarding P0420/P0430: https://www.tundras.com/posts/3584439/

On some years, you can swap either upstream and/or downstream left-to-right one at a time to see if the code changes between P0420/P0430, which can help track down a faulty sensor with only some knuckle busting, but you should still replace upstream and downstream on the affected side at the same time. If the code stays at its current value, don't blame the cat per se; misc leaks can cause the code to throw too, as can non-OEM catalytic converters, only 3 brands I've seen will avoid throwing codes.

Cat cleaner is a gimmick. You probably have a 1% chance it's going to open up your cat, zero chance it's going to unclog your cat. If you have a heat gun, it's very easy to see. Watch this video, starting at 1m34, if it doesn't auto-start in that spot for you.
Project Farm is such an awesome, quality channel. Guy is a badass. He'll show you how to use a scanner and a heat/temp guage to suss out a bad cat and/or bad sensor.

PS - welcome to the forum

Nay brah. Bunch of Cali bros in the 70's used to meet up at 4:20 to look for an abandoned weed crop. After they couldn't find it, it was just code for smokin' some ganj.

    Downtempo / acid jazz, essentially.

If you like, I recommend checking out Pipe /Ninja Tune (website here). Especially anything DJ Krush put out.

Also recommend to check out Kruder & Dorfmeister, or just the !K7 Record Label (also G-Stone Records) in general if that suits you. They remix a lot of stuff (like that song), but also put out their own content under various aliases. Some similar sounding artists on !K7 are Tosca, Peace Orchestra, Boozoo Bajou, Sofa Surfers...

Lastly, if you like that style of sound, but remixes of others, Fila Brazilia's album Brazilification is worth a listen.

Dropping some links for each of the three here to browse thru. If you like Radiohead, don't miss the last video. There is a mixed version of that album that's GREAT. Dude is nuuuuuts in his ability to remix and make better than the origial.
