So the dealer, Peterson Toyota in Boise, just got back to me. The vents just suck. They tested it against others on the lot and they're all that way according to my service advisor.

I am glad I started this thread because I thought I was losing my mind. Nonetheless there is a major issue with the AC and heat and airflow systems in these new Tundras. I'm not sure what it'll take for Toyota to address this, but I think the more us consumers report the issue and get the dealership management involved the sooner it'll get resolved. I have a great relationship with the service manager and dealership manager here in Daphne, Al. and they are actively looking for updates on this issue. I think my service manager has the solution, he says that he thinks it's a sensor issue that needs to be reprogramed. All these systems run off of sensors telling the AC or heat exactly how much air or heat to let in and how cold or hot to make it. He thinks the settings are all wrong. With that said he thinks a simple reprogram and or update to the sensors will fix this issue. The dealership manager is demoing a 22 Tundra and has noticed the same issue and is asking around to see if he can find anything. I know that with all new model vehicles there are "kinks" to work out and this needs to be on top of the list for Toyota!!!! Thanks for your reply and I'll keep putting any intel, anything and everything out here on this forum as I get it.

Took my truck into the dealership today to have them look at the HVAC plus a few other issues I am having and they said that the HVAC is acting in the same fashion as two other Tundras that are sitting on their lot currently. My next step it to start a case with Toyota to address the issue. If you are having the same issue please call 1-800-331-4331 prompt 7 then 3 to report the problem. They answer pretty quickly.

Thanks so much for this post. After seeing this post I called as well and started a case with Toyota. This is an absolute must for anyone having similar issues. The service manager at the dealership where I got my 22 SR5 compared mine to 4 others on their lot and found that they were all the same. The general manager of the dealership is demoing one and stated he is having the same issue in that one as well. The service manager feels certain that it is a "programming issue" with the HVAC and fan motors sensors, ie. the sensors aren't set to tell the computer to be in the cool mode when the temp is set at certain levels (63-68 degrees area). I have tried all settings AUTO, Regular, Recirc, High fan speeds, and had no luck in the lower settings, but when I put it in the "LO" setting it starts cooling great and the fan speed will rearrange your hair if you're not wearing a hat. It's the craziest thing I've ever seen. One would think there could be several minor issues with any new release design of a vehicle, but never in my wildest imagination did I think that in 2022 a company like Toyota would struggle with fan speed and AC!!!!!!! I mean really. Between this and not having at least a power driver seat and maybe a dome light so you can see when you hit the switch to turn all interior lights on, I'm disappointed in this truck. With that said yes I picked it out and knew about the seat and the lighting before, but was so excited to get the truck that I overlooked it, and that's on me. But come on Toyota it's AC, nothing new to vehicles here, pretty simple stuff. Wish I had my 22 4 door Tacoma TRD Sport LWB 4x4 back, it had a badass AC, plenty of light and power seats for way less money than this truck. I guess unless you spend $65,000+ dollars you don't get a power seat, $55,000 doesn't buy a power driver seat and proper illumination anymore, must be Covid!!

I noticed I have a "whistling" noise when I turn it off auto and put the air through the middle vents. When its on floor or defrost its sounds find but if I put it on the middle dash vents I get a slight noise. Anyone else get this?

Yes and if you notice your air probably doesn't cool like it should there are major issues with the HVAC systems in these new tundras and the thing to do is call 18003314331 Toyota Brand Corp when it prompts hit 7 then next prompt hit 3 and report it they'll give you a case # and hopefully when enough people complain they issue recall or update our something to fix these issues!

@hairychestedfrog: I'm picking up our 1794 from Peterson Toyota early this coming week. Is there something I should say to them about the air vents? Or a fix?
    thanks in advance.

Like Kbeck said. I would definitely check it out and bring it to their attention. Doubtful you will get any resolution though. I'll call the # and start the process. It's across the board as far as I can tell. Maybe the 23 is different??

I have a new 2023 and it is the same. Air blows at low speed only in the front at every fan and temperature setting unless you set the temp to “lo” it will blast.

Yes I am hoping they'll fix this issue very soon. I called 18003314331 Toyota Brand Corp and spoke to Asia and she gave me a case # on Friday the 9th and received a call back from next level case manager yesterday the 13th. I believe the guys name was Adrian but nonetheless he was gathering more info and said that they have been receiving more complaints so this is moving along to a resolution. Now it may take a bit but the more people that call and keep complaining the sooner they'll issue either a recall or call for scheduled repair. As with anything R/D will have to look into it to determine the issue, figure out the fix and then issue the recall or repair. I'm assuming this will not be an issue on the late 23's or 24's but for us 22ers and early 23ers we need a fix asap. I can't urge enough to keep calling, keep complaining, and they will have to fix it.

Side note I have also told them that a dome light and or side curtain lights like the new Sequoia have would be nice and power driver seat for us SR5 cloth interior folks would be nice. I mean if a $38k Tacoma with cloth has a power driver seat and a dome light, can a $55k Tundra get a hook up? And please no one respond with "it's in a higher trim level", I can't even deal with that response I mean NSS!
ANYWAY KEEP IT GOING EVERYONE AND WE'LL GET A FIX! THANKS

Sorry for your troubles, yeah there's a major issue. If you haven't already call Toyota Brand Corp at 18003314331 at first prompt hit 7 at second prompt hit 3 you'll get someone, report your issue and get a case number, let's keep reporting until they get the fix going! Thx and good luck

Edit: got a tsb related to this so maybe that will help.

Guess it’s supposedly an insect intrusion and is allegedly fixable. We shall see

“Some 2006 - 2022 model year Toyota vehicles in particular geographic areas may exhibit a condition where the HVAC evaporator drain hose has become obstructed with an insect nest. An insect repellent drain hose tip (ARINIX Tip) is available to help minimize future occurrences of this environmental condition. For some models, a new drain hose is required to properly fit the ARINIX Tip. Follow the procedures in this bulletin for proper handling and installation of this optional service part.”

Auto manufactures publish Technical Service Bulletins to their dealers notifying them of how to fix problems, many times, or always, not sure, non-recall related. To my knowledge the TSBs are not generally available to the public.

Anyone experience the driver side face fan intermittently blowing strong then cutting off? Like it sounds like it’s purging

Hey there, so listen there are many issues with the ac/fan speed systems in these trucks. Look at my thread about ac issues and you see a number to call Toyota and get the ball rolling in getting yours fixed. I recommend talking with Risie at Toyota Brand because she's super helpful. Mine is headed to dealership tomorrow to meet with regional rep to check my issues, but rest assured you're not alone, by a long shot. These trucks got major air issues all around but you have to follow up almost everyday to get it fixed. Good luck keep us posted.

Just checking in here. My 22 model has the same issue with fan speed. When you guys are calling into theToyota number, what should I state my issue is exactly? HVAC fan speed is too low? Or something like that?

Exactly like that! You may notice air isn't as cool as it should be and center vents don't blow like side vents and there may be a slight faint whistling sound from the passenger side. Basically they need to fix these issues! Good luck!
