hey guys new to the forum...

I have researched for weeks trying to solve and issue with my Tundra.

I have a intermittent sound coming from under the Tundra that is getting more frequent and louder.

At first it was once in a great while and always while deceleration never when turning, accelerating, going over bumps.

I've taken it in to have an inspection of my steering components and undercarriage, no loose bolts, nothing of that sort.

    Basically here the issue.

Whenever I am letting off the gas pedal I hear a loud clicking/clacking sound it's not constant, sometimes one click sometimes it's 20, it sounds metal on metal, it sounds like a cv joint going out but only does this when going straight and only when slowing down.

I had them inspect everything and they couldn't find anything at all except my carrier bearing is a little loose.

$500 repair later still makes the sound, so that wasn't it.

I'm stumped so if anyone has any ideas that would greatly be appreciated.

Last guy who looked at it said maybe torque converter or pressure plate.

Idk if that's a solution or just a crazy guess, my truck runs fine shift fine had tons of power for 140k miles.

    For the basic info,

    2008 Tundra Crew Max 4x4
Has leveling kit on front 2" not causing the issue they were installed at 5k miles.

Thanks but not my issue, this thread is for a noise coming out of the dash my noise is under the truck and loud like metal on metal not a tick inside the truck it's definitely under and loud like a cv joint clicks when it's going out in a turn only this isn't when I'm turning but whenever I slow down

It's not injectors that would be engine this feels like it's solid part of the suspension not engine at all its like a cv joint sound if you've ever heard that loud and annoying but definitely not injectors that would be noticeable compared to this I can take a video of it tomorrow for reference

Way back when I was a kid I heard of cases that the internal parts of the muffler or catalyst came loose and rattled around.

I just bought an 07 Tundra 5.7, 144k miles and I think I had the same noise. It was a tapping noise from the rear, sometimes a single tap, sometimes a series of taps. Sounded like metal on metal, not very loud. It happened at the wheel rotation frequency, only when feathering the throttle, between 30-60 mph. Took it a couple miles in the cold to start doing it. Turns out it was the differential, the cross pin had somehow loosened and would slap around when the drive train was slack. I took the opportunity to put in an Auburn Pro limited slip and change the axle bearings. It drives perfectly now, quiet and the limited slip is awesome.

You know the 1st gen had s carpet type section where the seatbelt metal part would rest. Now I have to tuck it in after every time kids ride in back.

Doubt it's ops problem but darn irritating.

I have the same problem as M1khale. Even replaced the rear drive shaft...no luck. Definitely hard clunking /clacking metal on metal. Sometimes one clunk, sometimes several, when decelerating.
Seems to be in the front end.
    Has anyone solved this problem?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

Broken TPMS? I hit a 4' ditch so hard one time it snapped the tpms off at the stem. It made noise like that starting, deceleration. But not always repeated, the dealership found -0- but took the truck in months later to rotate the tires and the local Les Schwab found the issue. Jack up a tire and spin it, no sound go to the other. I was deer hunting over by Crater Lake, a flash flood had washed the road out, I was driving@45 after leaving my tree stand and had no time to react. I could skid to a stop and fall into the 4' by 4' ditch or accelerate across like dukes of Hazzard style. I was 75 miles from home, dark so I hit the gas. Extreme but I made it home, never let anyone tell me my truck ain't tough. The front end hit about 1' low but since the truck weighs 6,000 lbs it just plowed thru like a tank. Next day went to have it aligned the skid plate and frame were covered in gravel.

Check all heat shields ? I had this kinda problem from one of mine. It ended up coming completely off. Just a thought you may check those.

I had a terrible clicking sound once. The little plastic tab where bottom of the bumper screws to skid plate had broken. The screw fell out and the tab was vibrating against skid plate

Has this problem been solved? Still have the exact problem....still no luck finding a solution.
The front end is tight, no shields are loose, doesn't do it over bumps. Just when decelerating, and not always repeatable under same conditions.
Rear driveshaft has been replaced with no change.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Hey Everyone. I am
Having a similar problem. Except mine is brand new. Well it has 4000 miles on it now but heard the noise at 400 miles.
It’s a 2018 Platinum. Just bought in November.
I have had it to the dealer twice. They can’t find anything wrong with it and the noise in the front is driving me crazy.
Same clicking/clacking noise, not repeatable in same conditions always. I do notice when I roll up onto my driveway over the rollover curb there is 1 noticeable clack that’s sounds like it is coming from the same source.
    Any solutions?

    P.S
I have read on another forum it could be from the trd skid plate installed after the fact. I do not have one.

Wheel bearing? They have a deceptive sound that begins as static/grinding, metal to metal noises.

Hey guys same deal here I know my differential is bad but the loud ticking and slapping has to be the fly wheel and pressure plate I'm saving up to replace the transmission and differential at the same time my dad just passed down the truck to me so I'm more determined then ever!!!! 2007 5.7v8 2wd 191,000 miles

Your truck doesn't have a pressure plate or flywheel if it's an automatic. It only has flex plate and torque convertor.
