So I found this oem dash kit, fitment should be spot on since it’s oem but it’s faux wood grain and it doesn’t belong here.

Now I have a choice of how to paint it, professionally or rattle can? And I have to pick a color....gloss black? Flat black? Gunmetal?

    Decisions decisions........
    796C7E26-0676-4D90-AB5C-EED42A689A63.jpg

I know many will say why not just take off and paint the dash panel itself? Well there’s no coming back from that, and this is completely reversible since it’s a overlay.

    Just to give an idea........

    Trd lowered suspension kit review.

So after driving the truck for a couple days I have to say I’m impressed, i have dropped vehicles before and I was I little worried that the ride would be harsh or too firm, that’s the whole reason I keeped my old springs, just in case I didn’t like the ride I could revert back.

Well needless to say I sold my old springs already lol this thing rides great! From the drivers seat, the front feels slightly firmer but not at all any harsher, the biggest difference was the rear, it feels slightly softer to me and rides better than stock. Before the rear was too springy, it wound get too bouncy over bumps. Now it’s more planted and road holding is better, more composed over bumps. Trd really did a good job with this.

Oh man that looks so good. I really wanna lower mine. Two obstacles, one being money and two the decreased payload, I'd have to invest in airbags too.

Yeah, there are other kits that retain the stock leafs by flipping them under the axle technically keeping your payload but then the drop is too low to haul so you would need airbags anyway.

I dig your build.... yes it will help with your application of power.
Do you have plans to install a real LSD?

I do want to eventually put a auburn in the rear, also contemplating doing 4.88 gears at the same time but I’m on the fence about that, acceleration wound increase but so would my rpms at highway cruising speeds

I bought it from antennasource.com for 20 bucks, it came in with the stubby but it was actually Oem, so maybe I overpaid, never compared the price with roman’s

My 4.7L '02 is much better at laying down full power after I added a Kazuma LSD and a Hellwig rear sway bar, the truck launches strong and kick-downs lock up immediately. An Auburn LSD is planned for my '07 RCSB sometime next year... maybe long tubes after that. It never ends.

    It sure doesn’t!

One thing I miss about my first gen, the mechanical lsd and no nannies butting in. It’s just you and the truck.

Do we still have to deal with nannies on the Gen 2 after installing the Auburn?
    How does that work?

Yeah, but I heard the system works well in junction with the auburn, I don’t know how true that is.

But if all else fails you can just turn all the nannies off.

So I started this little project today.

    0EED432D-DA9A-47EB-8C21-013ED3E09B14.jpg

I choose to go the rattle can route.

    EFE22723-9D05-497D-8D72-D8D21FC3BA3B.jpg

After some light sprays for coverage I sprayed a heavy coat for shine and smoothness.

    D7A885CA-784E-479E-8C17-8C1EA20EC27D.jpg

I think it came out great. Can’t wait to put it on.

But as I was reading the label, the paint should be fully dried in 1 day but Full aheasion with plastic takes 5-7 days, so I’m going to play it safe and install next week.

So I was on eBay looking at steering wheels, mainly Tacoma and 4Runner wheels, when I stumbled upon a cheap 8 dollar steering wheel wrap. I said f it and bought it, I’m a sucker for cheap mods lol

    E4057D90-1E90-4062-AB1B-9C40B680F29B.jpg

Being a 8 dollars purchase, my expectations were really low but I gave it a shot.

Just getting the leather on was a pain in the ass.

After a hour of threading the needle......

For coming into this with 8 dollars and low expectations, I think it looks great, it’s gonna match my shifter too.

    Looks great!

What's the item located where the 4 wheel drive knob would otherwise be? Some tray of some sort?

    Well couldn’t wait any longer......

Removed some center console pieces so installing the shifter piece was a breeze and and fitment was perfect.

    DFCE35D7-EB76-4F72-8827-D6A2829BBEAB.jpg

Top piece fitment was good, but I don’t know how long this was in storage for and I feel like the double sided tape was dry and/or old, so I may go back and replace it but for now it’s good enough.

Changed the look of the cockpit quite a bit. I’m happy with it.

    Did some minor things today.

Replaced one of the bed protectors that was in pretty bad shape. Used a eBay coupon on it so it didn’t hurt the wallet so much.

    C10909BD-48DE-40E4-91F1-E56896544EC2.jpg 91B361FF-1D4A-4297-A197-E6A1609BF744.jpg

Eventually I’m going to replace the other side and the one on the tailgate.

Also replace the dried 3m tape on the dash kit.

I used a thinner but stronger tape and added some extra strips, thing isn’t going anywhere now.

    Lastly added these........4E94D59F-F5E8-447E-9EFB-9170B07D4E16.jpg

The little carpeted door handle covers, mine where missing and these were only like 5 bucks.

Just buying time till that exhaust comes in lol

I have found a set for sale locally...

What is "very affordable" in a dollar amount?

And what lug nuts did you use... what did they cost?

    Thanks!

Another cheap mod for the books!

    Ordered a trd airflow accelerator.

    8BECE01F-456A-448D-92B2-7E9191F2D11B.jpg

As you can see the tubing is the same size it’s just the inlet that’s flanged out, who knows if it actually does anything but hey it says trd on it so that has to be worth 5 ponies lol
    435B6803-6940-478D-B444-94EF4E040C64.jpg

The only other difference I found was that the stock piece had a foam gasket that looked like it helped keep the engine heat from seeping into the inner fender thru a ever so small gap around the tube, the trd one didn’t come with one so I reused the old one, kinda stuffed it into the fender to create a good seal.

    DFE85B5D-B4A8-45C7-91DB-F48EF1709F9C.jpg

In the end I can’t say that I can tell if it made a difference, I want to say it sounds more throaty but that can all be in my mind.

Also washed and shined her up.

As my work truck it doesn’t stay clean for very long, that and it’s been raining on and off around here for the past month. As a matter of fact it’s raining today lol

Moved a 500-600 pound bbq pit with her this weekend, she took it well. Originally the pro was going to do it but after realizing I was going to load and unload it, those couple of inches of height difference would come into play lol.

She averaged 16.2 mpg this week including moving the pit.
