I'm always interested in input from other's experiences. So, what did you settle in on?

Finally have a day where it's not raining and caught the wire's car sitting still. Not the best pic, but better than nothing.

The nice thing about Butter Wet Wax, besides the shine, is the ease of application. You do not have to wait until it hazes to remove it. the down side is it's lack of durability....if you get more than 2 weeks out of it, you're fortunate. Since time is not your ally, consider a sealant, which will last longer...a lot longer. Earlier in this thread, I mentioned McKees HiDef sealant. You can apply it, and leave it on for an extended period of time before removal. I've left it on for 12 hours, and it still comes off super easy. Maybe you could apply it one night after the little ones are in bed, and remove it the next day at nap time?

Which is why I use their Extreme Depth wax with x-seal. It acts like the butter wax, but lasts longer.

I've never used that one....I have a couple of hybrids on the shelf....how long do you typically get from an application?

    Thanks for the tips!
One of these days I'm just going to have to tell my wife that I've got to wax the cars and spend the time to do one of those sealants/waxes that last a 6mos - 1yr.
I've also thought of having the ceramic coating done. I need to look more into that.

I dont think i have an enclosed area large enough to fit the truck. If i were to leave it overnight I'd probably end up with a bunch of dust and pollen dusted over the un removed wax... I'd be concerned mixing that in or scratching up the truck... But it's a nice thought!

Thanks for typing that up. I’ve been planning on making a thread asking what everyone’s go to was in each category. Now I don’t have to think it all out as much. (I gave you credit)

I'm going on a month now and still holding up. Put a coat on at the beginning of last winter but don't know how long it lasted through winter. Winter was rough so kinda hard to tell

I'm sure I missed a couple....and others will read that list and have issue with some of the items, I'm sure. This obsession gets expensive, and it's taken me three full years to sort stuff out. I've finally reached a point where I do not jump on the latest thing.

Looking at my list, there’s a ton of money there. Add in all the stuff that didn’t make the list, and I start questioning my judgement.

It did add up, but I had three years of birthdays and Christmases to help me along the way...once I started, I used the wish list option on my account on autogeek.....published it every year.....made sure no one bought me a sweater

Nice work. Not a fan of jetseal myself. Too finicky as someone said earlier. Careful with IPA wipedowns as IPA softens some paints and can induce more swirls. Wolfgang sealant is by far the easiest to use. I’ve always been a fan of dodo juice waxes.

I've not tried Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant yet...I have some of their products for leather and carpet, though....what other sealants have you used that you were able to compare Wolfgang to?

I used to detail cars on the side for years. I’ve used everything under the sun from jetseal to cquartz finest coating. Blackfire sealant was easy to use as well. If you want a great combo wax/sealant use fuzion. That product goes on and comes off unbelievably easy. A little pricey but you get a free refill.

Haven’t used that one. It’s kinda new. Detailing has been on hold the last year because of a back injury and surgery. I’ll try that one when I get back into the swing of things.

Funny that you ask....got some (traded for it) from a guy in a detailing forum a month or so back...had always wanted to try it. I'm not usually a big fan of soaps with gloss enhancers, but I'd heard good things about it. It has a unique consistency, and you need to shake it up before using. Has a very nice smell, as the CG soaps do, and works very well, as the CG soaps do. Very good, slick foam in a bucket wash, and good foam out of a foam gun. I've not tried it out of a foam cannon yet. Some people claim that, in a 1oz to 1 gallon ratio, it will work well as a strip wash. That contention I can neither prove nor disprove, since I've not used it in that ratio.

Remember in high concentration it will strip wax off.

Yes. It’s always good to strip it off when applying new. Unless you’re doing an immediate second coat the next day.

Lots of washing can also strip off the wax.

    **Round 2 **

Decided to seal and detail the daughters new Prius, but decided to make a few adjustments from my last round.

Step 1: Washed with Mr. Pink soap using 2 bucket method. I really like this soap for it foams up nicely.

Step 2: Clay padded with clay pad on an orbital and the Chemical Guys clay lubber. This seriously sped up the clay process .

Step 3: Washed with Mr. Pink again to clean any clay bar and clay lubber residue.

Step 4: Sealed the car. Instead of using the Chemical Guys Jet Seal I decided to try the McKee's 37 High Def Paint Sealant. I was not happy last time with the "blotching" that the Chemical Guy's Jet Seal left. The McKee's defiantly buffs out much easier and does not leave any blotches or streaks. The only negative is it seems to be much harder to buff off of glass than the paint. Based on these results, I am switching from the Jet Seal to the McKees. Anyone need a bottle of Jet Seal?

Step 6: Tried a new wax and used the Pete's 53 Black Pearl. Even though it was formulated for darker colors, any metallic paint will benefit as well. I really liked this wax. Since it is a paste wax, it goes on with a very thin coat, which is all that is needed. This wax drys very fast so work with small areas and it buffs out nicely. The longer it drys, the harder it is to buff out.

Since the Prius is a match box car compared to the Tundra, it did not take long. So, I had time to do a quick detail and Wax Addict treatment to the Tundra as well.

That truck looks good! I like the black vinyl stripes over your wheel wells.. I was wondering what I was going to do - looks super plain without the “TSS” stickers I just took off... now I’ve got a good idea to snag :D

Love that Tundra....graphics are bad-ass. Just out of curiosity, how long did you leave the HiDef on before you removed it? I've left it on overnight....came off super easy

Thanks...That's how I got these stripes. Took a pic of something similar to my local vinyl guy and asked him to design something like it. This was the result.

I do t know who it was that mentioned that the High Def could be left on longer so I left it in for a good 3 hours. Came off very easy.

Hey Jim, looking good. Your actually one of my inspirations (among others as well) for proper detailing. I've learned quite a bit from you. Thanks!
