I keep seeing service records on used trucks where they check the floor mat. Is the floor mat a known issue or problem? lol. Is this where Toyota had trouble with the floor mat interfering with the gas pedal and supposedly causing it to stick so they are now paranoid about checking it. It just seemed kinda odd to me to keep seeing this listed on service and service schedules.

I think it’s mentioned in the owners manual during the service interval to check the floor mats. May be why you see it showing up in the service records. Just checking a box

I just can't put my family's safety at risk by buying a poorly maintained vehicle.

I know for the Tacoma (and I believe for the 4Runner as well) they were putting in mats that did not have the holes which could secure the mat to the floor hooks. Without the holes they could slide up and in the way of the pedals. After buying my new Tundra I was surprised not to see the mat anchor points.

If my memory serves me correctly, the dealer had me come in so they could install that grommet in my OEM floormat after the fact. This was not long after those people passed away in San Diego about 10 years back because their floormat got stuck under the accelerator.

I had a 2009 Tacoma and took it in for a tranny flash and rear leafs under a TSB. They said they HAD to do the pedal chop. I told them if they butcher my already too small pedal they would never see me again. They said we don't butcher them and if you don't like it drive around the block and we will put a new one on it. They gave me some bullshit about safety recall and I could not get the safety inspection unless it was fixed. I told them again not to do it. It was a battle but I got what I wanted. Even though they did not touch the pedal they charged Toyota for it.

My Tacoma had that issue even with weathertech mats. Wasn't that big of a problem the mat did slide numerous times when pushing the clutch. I however don't have the issue with tundra and the same brand mats.
