It shocks me that Toyota has teamed up with CBI on multiple projects when we as consumers continue to see poor quality and craftmanship from CBI. From the website and forums, it looks like a great product but after hearing multiple negative stories around alignment, fitment and quality issues... I just can't pull myself to consider their bumpers.

Ahh I’m glad they’re getting you squared away. Sucks you gotta get tossed back into the waiting list, seems like they should get the next one out to you, but what do I know about running a business :notsure:

You know if the new “revised” bumper is going to be a new standard design? Hoping they make that change across the board..

Hoping to see the revised bumper and how it fits, looks like CBI is focusing on other projects when they should be shipping yours out yesterday

The new one just showed up last week and we have been gone all of this week. Hoping to be able to get it on here very soon though. Haven't even pulled off the plastic so I can't say yet what changes were made to the flange. I'll definitely report back once I get it on though.

Consider this saga CLOSED. After a few months of back-and-forth with CBI we have a final resolution! I am not going to share all details as I don't want to set a precedent with others experiencing issues with parts into the future with other manufacturers. That said, at the end of the day I have new bumper in hand and will be repairing the paint damage on the tailgate. The bumper that showed is actually the base for the new swingout version, although we aren't utilizing the swingout for our build. I am not sure if all of these bumpers are built on the swingout architecture now, but I'll find out.

Here's some pics and some notes. I'll show the situation that the old bumper found itself in as well as some changes between the two.

New Bumper Installed - Not ALL buttoned up yes as you can see since we have some goodies coming :spy:
    IMG_9791[1].jpg

Photos showing the new bumper's design changes.
    • New beveled flange to avoid contact with tailgate during opening. I personally don't feel as though they began the notching quite far enough back as the tailgate comes VERY close at the ends of the notching. I'm curious to see if I draw any vertical contact in a scenario where I have an open tailgate and some decent weight sitting on it, but we shall see! As it stands right now though I can happily report that I have noticed NO CONTACT.
    • Notching of bumper on either side of license plate. I believe this to be where the swingout would latch in.
    • At corners or "bumper caps" the end itself is now threaded and came with flat plates to screw in since I don't have the swingout. There's also holes punched in the top for where the swingout pivot would sit.

    IMG_9744[1].jpg IMG_9733[1].jpg

How far the old bumper had fallen off from its original form. Clearly just a case of bad prep IMO for it to degrade this much in less than a 6 months.

The flat edge that was contacting the tailgate vs the new beveled edge.

All-in-all I'm happy to have found some resolution here, and ready to get back to wrenching on this thing!

I'm glad you have a resolution. In my opinion, that edge should not go higher than the tool rectangular access hole for the spare. See my pix in post #6.

sweet christ, that powder coat was atrocious. I'm glad I had mine done locally and they did a full sandblast first.

But now I'm jealous you got the swing-out base...

    I don't need a swing out...

Yeah, my local shop does full sandblast as prep, degrease and clean before applying the powder coating.
