You may be surprised to find out that Canada is it’s own country with its own laws. :D

Not at all but reasonable this is not.

I lived in Mexico for a decade, new cars have a low mile (kilometer) one year warranty. It's BS.

I’m just giving you a hard time. For the record, I agree that it’s some nonsense.

“Catastrophic” has so many levels, like sharting your pants or dropping your ice cream. Normally when referring to vehicle failures, catastrophic implies a component took a complete shit and needs a new one. I would be pretty upset given the OP’s situation especially if it was my only ride given the current rental car situation.

These threads remind me that all mechanical things have issues. I forgot my 2010 4.6 had a bad camshaft. It was an early production of the first year of it and my local dealer kept the truck for 2 weeks, toyota engineers flew out to look at my truck in person, they replaced the cams and i never had another issue with it

Other people think of a catastrophic failure as something that shuts down the vehicle and renders it inoperable. Especially new owners in my experience.

Codes indicate a fuel issue (not a big surprise considering how it was acting), but they cannot narrow it down past that at the dealer level. Evidently they are bringing in a technician from corporate (or engineering or something) to continue the diagnosis. Also, because the vehicle became inoperable in the roadway NHTSA will be involved in the process (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration). The service manager seems knowledgeable and said he has not seen or read about the issue my truck had. They handed me a RAV4 and said, we are probably gonna have your truck for a while. If I learn anything more I’ll pass it along.

You kidding right? Nobody is still wondering whether the 3rd Gen sucks. It's been 1,000,000%%% established. It's now an embarrassment. From looking like a Tacoma's ugly little sister to having the reliability of a Yugo the argument is no longer feasible, it's gone. More people argue on this forum whether they will keep their 2.5 Gen for 14 more years or just buy one of the dreaded three.

I mentioned this on another thread. Ford got a bad batch of valve bodies for the 2.7 motor on the new Broncos. The result = blown engines that is a catastrophic failure and that particular issue effected thousands of the new broncos. People are freaking out on this forum because there has been several recalls on this new truck but there are with every new vehicle I also mentioned a fellow forum member on here bought a 21 Ford raptor build date was February when he picked it up at the end of March by the time he drove it home from out of state it had 11 recalls on it and the truck was only a month old so it happens to all vehicles. Toyota didn’t become the largest vehicle manufacturer in the world because their vehicles suck I’m sure they’re going to fix it. It’s also important to keep in mind this is a the same proven engine that has been out for years in the Lexus LS 500. I’m confident Toyota will get all the bugs worked out

Sound like they are getting a little closer to problem. Wish you luck. That Rav should be good on gas.

We just did a 1400 mile round trip from PA to SC in my wife's Rav4 a couple days ago to pick up a puppy and averaged 33mpg. Not too bad considering the mountains on the trip and I was doing 80-85 the whole way.

I had an issue with spurious codes on my new 2022 platinum... It was like they were troubleshooting an F18... first to go... lower wiring harness... Next EcU... haha after 40 years working on Navy Jets.... I felt like I was troubleshooting my plane...

New platform, new design... I expect issues...

Toyota Denton called today and said the additional diagnosis points to a faulty ECM, which they have ordered with an unknown ETA at this time.

I hope that you are able to leverage this into something that is in your favor. I would subtly remind them that a Rav4 is not a truck and that their Lemon Law time is now ticking.

Dam I hope Toyota is not buying ECU's from Bill Gates we cant have the blue screen of death popping up on the display. Glad it was just a simple part that could happen to anything we own today.

UPDATE: Toyota if Denton called last week stating my truck was repaired and ready to be picked up. I drove the 1 1/2 hour drive, started my truck, and immediately noticed a message stating “engine maintenance required see your dealer”. Turned the truck off, which they didn’t bother to wash, and watched them drive it back into the shop. Was given a new loaner vehicle, and I’m waiting to hear what the new problem is.

    Too many, but not enough....
Did you demand compensation for your gas used to get there, go back home, then come back again?

I demanded several things and they continue to pass the buck to “Toyota Brand Engagement”, claiming they are the “customer service” people that can “compensate” me or offer whatever to make up for the sh!t show this is turning into.

Is engine maintenance required not just the reminder for the 5k service? I think it comes on a few hundred miles early. It should be able to be reset on the dash.

They thought that initially until they hooked up to it and found new/different codes. There were three codes, but I only remember one was relayed to the automatic air damn on the front end.

I have been reading through this thread and can't believe this happened to a 2022. Funny, my dealer called me the other day and asked me if i wanted to trade in my 2020 sport. he said he would give me 50K without even seeing it. I laughed and said no flipping way...they wanted to sell me a Platnum they had...the salesman said he had a deal on this truck...a step up from what I currently have he said...I laughed even harder. he didn't think it was that funny.

My guess is that Toyota won’t get fully dialed in until this time next year.

I am cautiously optimistic that the major issues are mostly solved now. For example the thread tracking turbocharger waste gate failures has been dormant for a few months now. That leaves mostly rubber weather stripping, minor fit and finish issues, and more refined software as the most need to be addressed things I read about here.

The OP’s issue is hopefully a singular incident.
