Apparently, it just depends where you are. Further down the page, Tundra is 2nd in these states ↓

That is correct, only in the SW regions of the US. If you average it out across the nation the Tundra doesn't even make the top ten (first chart).

That's for damn sure. Personally, I feel bad for all the manufacturers that have to deal with these low life POS's.

The folks selling the anti-cat theft guards are probably the ones stealing all the cats.
One of the oldest tricks in the book.

It is the standard 1/8” thick shield. Sorry it took me 7 months to reply!

I returned a 2021 Tundra to Carmax because it had aftermarket cats. No issues but dealership said it could start throwing codes in a year or so. Researched replacement cats. New OEM were about $3500 for both. Plus the thieves cut the pipe to the muffler on the right one because the braket is right at the cat, so would need to replace the muffler as well to bring it back to stock OEM.

Also couldn't find aftermarket direct fit for the 2021. I suspect because they start throwing codes for the 2.5 gen. Because it fits the previous ones.

My truck was also rear ended it appeared. So back in went.

I'm getting a new Taco now because I'm sick of dealing with it. Going to get the cat shield right away.

If you have a Tundra cat shield is no brainer.

In general this really sucks so many people are being vicimized and nothing being done about it. More needs to be done.

I see threads like this on the 4Runner forums and now this forum and it makes me sick.

Fortunately, I live in an area with almost no crime and I've never even considered cat shields. I don't anyone who has had their cats stolen, and I can't imagine it happening, unless I travel to a craphole like Spokane or Seattle.

Well, here we go again....my 7 month catalytic converter fiasco started when I dropped of the truck at the body shop for damage to the EXCAT same place :annoyed: I have a shield in place this time so hoping for a better outcome....

The day I went to the dealer to pick up my Tundra in May of 2020, we found out all 4 cats had been cut. They also got three other Tundras and a couple Corollas and a Prius. Back then, they were available and were replaced in a couple of days. I installed a cat shield when we went back to the office in 2021.

It did sound pretty cool though with the exhaust coming right out of the headers.

I was surprised the computer would let it start with all four missing.

I also had my truck broken into in the middle of the day at work in a nice suburb. First experience with something like that in my decades of driving. Crime is increasing in most cities.

I have a feeling not being in CA was the biggest factor that they had replacements available. It took 7 months and $8,700sh in rental costs...on Toyota's dime :spending:

Had all four of my cats stolen on my Tundra, and the cats stolen off my Tacoma at the same time. Installed a aftermarket pipe on the Taco (4 cylinder) with no issues and sold it. Installed after market on the Tundra, but with Denso O2 sensors with zero issues so far, 10K miles later. Installed a plate on my Tundra since then!

States could do a better job deterring cat theft by cracking down on the buyers and making it not worth the crime. Article on jalopnik mentioned Hawaii has seen a huge drop after making the crime a felony and requiring sellers to show ID and buyers to track their purchases. I had a 4Runner get hit years ago in a hospital parking garage of all places, even with cameras everywhere. OK has long had problems with drugs, poverty and flimsy laws to combat this issue. So infuriating. I'm gonna have to seriously look into some kind of shield/armor set up for the Tundra.

Looks like the RCI guards+transmission cover can connect up to an RCI skid plate, but what about the other brands? Would they all play nice with the TRD skid plate? Truck is in shop getting fixed and trying to see what I should do about the skid plate getting replaced, and how that'll determine my choice for cat covers.

No way, you mean actual crime prevention/prosecution/tracking numbers works? Holy crap.
Funny how this incredible awesome totally new concept can work. Oh…. If only prosecutors and counties would enforce laws ALREADY ON BOOKS!!!!
Maybe, just maybe, crime would decrease.
This same model would fix a lot of things. But meh, I don’t know anything and I feel like my vote doesn’t matter.

The frightening part of this chart is the Tundra is a mere fraction of the sales of many of these vehicles. On a per capita basis the Tundra is #1 by a massive, massive amount. There are literally 8 F-150's in parking lots for every single Tundra. For the Silverado and Tacoma its somewhere in the 5-6 for every Tundra.

I dont have much of an experience, got mine as soon as I found out they were getting stolen. But my co-worker got his stolen and Toyota said it would be a 4-5 month wait for replacements. So he got aftermarkets and added a FlowMaster and the very next day they got stolen again while grocery shopping. :frusty:
