They’re stealing them for the metal inside, not to reuse them on another car. The way they’re cutting them out with sawzalls, etc. the part is essentially useless except for scrap.

We do! I haven't checked statistics in a while but Riverside and San Bernadino Counties were among the highest for meth abuse in the country in early 2000s. Breaking Bad was supposed to be based in Riverside but we refused to allow the filming, didn't want to tarnish our reputation lol!

I knew a lot of tweekers, the unfortunate thing when friends become addicts. They were doing insane heists for money and a lot of it involved scrap metal, mainly copper. They weren't stealing cats but plenty do here.

I had someone cut off both front cats .had to drive home on the freeway with open headers sounds like a race car. Replaced them with walkers brand no problems so far. I live in California so no other cat will work except California emission.be sure to check which one will work for emission testing. There are three different ones federal,California, and 49state ones. Make sure you get the right one.

    Probably some truth there.

Here in the south, we'll gladly take them off :)

Take it easy on these thief's guys. They need space and opportunity to take from others that are more privileged than you that work hard and take care of your stuff. Its not their fault the pipe goes to their lips and they inhale. Thats your fault.

I think the metal is called Palladium that is in our Catalytic Converters. Its worth way more than gold.

I know very well where it is, I've already replaced mine... I didn't remove the exhaust manifold and the extensions I used placed my ratchet right next to the CAT, I guess experiences may vary then. :)

I'm not really sure what any of this means? Are you describing starter replacement? Would love to see this trans-catalytic extension technique you speak of.

We just get the computer check. Easy enough for me to cheat. Is it good to do? No. Do I drive the truck a lot? No. They nabbing cats like crazy out here. I’ll just leave nothing for them to nab. Until insurance covers them. I won’t run them on the tundra.

my Tacoma I’m not worried about, the aftermarkets are cheap enough.

Some of those "cats" may have been a resonator. Should just have 2 cats from everything I see.

This is one of my biggest worries with my truck and why I have full coverage on it. Given the height, it is super easy for someone to crawl under and cut them out.

The cat on my '97 T100 got swiped but they were kind enough to unbolt it. I had full coverage on at the time. $2100 for a new OEM cat. :eek2:
