I see daily on Facebook groups ect of Tundras getting hit for their Cats. Cut out in less than a minute and thieves haul ass.

I know unfortunately some of you guys in this group have been victim of this crap. Curious as to what your story was to get back on the road.

My buddy's Tacoma got hit over the weekend. It was parked at an international airport while he was traveling for work. Got in it late last night to come home and lets just say it was much much louder on startup.

I know getting parts is hard and can take months. Did you file under insurance? Did you drive a rental car? Did you pay for any of this out of pocket? What is your story?

Maybe this thread can help give advice to people who just got hit and are trying to figure out what to do next.

There are already several threads about this. Months to get replacement cats. Some got rentals, others could not. All around a crappy situation.

Wonder if any of these stolen cats are covered under comprehensive auto insurance policy ?

My coworker dropped his Tacoma off at the local dealer two days ago. They told him 30-60 day wait for parts. His insurance is going to pay for the repair but they are not going to cover a rental car. Looks like he and his wife will be sharing one vehicle for the next month or two. Something he is not exactly excited about.

Probably going to be more than 30-60 days unfortunately. Been 6 months for me.

Yea I was a little worried about that but I didn't say anything to him. We will see how long it actually takes.

He said the Toyota tech told him aftermarket magnaflow converters were an option but that most Tacomas with them were having issues with the check engine light coming on. I thought this sounded a little weird but maybe.

Yeah, it's true about the magnaflows. The magnaflows are EPA compliant, but not CARB compliant so p0420 and p0430 catalyst inefficiency codes are common.

Forgot to mention that if your coworker is in Houston and needs his truck back, I know a shop that will get it back on the road until his cats come in.

We are up north about an hour out of town. I believe he is going to let it sit at the Toyota dealer until it is fixed.

I personally would be hunting parts anywhere I could find. I doubt you can find a hood used cat out of a junkyard.

Ahh ok. I looked at the online junkyards and never had any luck. Pretty sure cats are the first thing that get removed when the junkyards get the vehicles.
