So I arrived at DFW airport yesterday to find my truck sounding like a farm tractor when I turned it on. Looked underneath and noticed that somebody had cut out the catalytic converter. Called the airport cops. No cameras..

Waiting on insurance to call me. Drove that truck 2 hours home. Horrible.

Lights and cameras do not slow them down. Order Valhalla Shields from @Classy63 while you are waiting for parts.

Then you'll be waiting and cats and sheilds.
I'm waiting for both, OEM cats and Valhalla shields.
5.7 months for the cats, over 3 months for Valhalla shields.
I wonder which one is going to show up first.

Just read that in New York state, dealers can etch a serial number on the converter so if found it can traced back to the vehicle it was stolen from..

The etching can be crossed out. Etched or painted, they will still get stolen and you will still be without your truck because you will be waiting months for parts. The plates are designed as a deterrent to make them go elsewhere.

What are the ramifications of temporary installing a strait pipe in its place until the cats come in? Has too be a temp fix in this case.

That theory works really well on controlling gun violence in NY too. All guns have serial numbers on them. They are still stolen. They are still used in the commission of crimes. It did make the criminals change what they had to do to use the stolen gun in NY and reduce their risk of getting caught.

Etching is one of those “feel good” things that aren’t really gonna help in most circumstances. They either won’t notice or won’t care when they’re under your truck, and they’ll get taken anyway.

The only instance I’ve heard of them helping is if the thieves happen to be pulled over with a ton of cats or caught in the act somewhere else, the police would be able to identify your stolen property after the fact.

If it makes you feel a little better while waiting for your shield, I say go for it. It can’t hurt any. Sadly it’s not going to really help either.

as long as you have your front O2 sensors zero issues running without cats. the oxygen sensor behind the cats are only to tell the PCM the cats are working. install some straight pipes ignore check engine light or buy a o2 sensor simulator to trick the computer the o2 sensor is working and therefore cats are working. I find it odd POS CA comes up with all the emissions crap and also comes up with the workaround....

were gonna find out on May 17th!

spoke with Keith at DD and he explained dropping in a test pipe will work. It may change the sound a bit, but will not change performance. He did stress using the same diameter pipe.

When we fly, it's usually for multi-day trips. I've had good luck booking the cheapest economy car rental to and from airport. Cost is about the same when considering, what, $10 or so per day parking at the airport? Plus your vehicle can stay at home in your garage or at least watched by neighbors as opposed to sitting in a sketchy-ass airport parking lot. Plus, I find it easier to get in and out of the airport. Drop off the car and take the shuttle straight to where you need to be. Similar when leaving - get your stuff, take the shuttle back to car rental. Easy.

Of course, this assumes you have car rental nearby where you live. Perhaps a case of good beer or a bottle of decent whiskey for a buddy to drop you off / pick you up would be a good investment?

Hell, for the price/inconvenience of stolen cats, perhaps a $500 - $1000 POS beater car would be worth it specifically for trips to/from airport?

Enterprise,Alamo and National are not allowing one way trips. I could make the car rental thing work but I need to get to Dallas first, then when I come back and I can a rental with return trip.

    So annoying....bastards.

Guys, get the freaking plates. I had to wait for mine and it was frustrating, but now my lots at work have been hit numerous times and my cats are protected.

FOR SURE the walking scrotums have eyed mine and moved on to another vehicle at least 3 times, probably a lot more.

If you replace the cats, they can be stolen again. $500-$600 bucks is money well spent. I went with VALHALLA and they are excellent.

We can all agree that these criminals deserve horrible fates, but they are almost NEVER caught.

(Edited to remove rudeness that was not constructive)
