I haven’t noticed any issues with the weight at all. One thing I was worried about was heat build up, I drive around the ranch in the fields with tall grass/weeds and was worried about possibly fire, so far no issues at all.
As for Burtons, meet a man by that name a while ago at Anthony’s having dinner.

Valhalla sells "Pentagon Security Bolts". Am I correct that these are tamper-resistant by virtue of having a funky head size that will not allow standard sockets to work?

As I understand it, catalytic converters generate massive internal heat so I imagine they would not be an issue for the cats, but as to the trapped/restricted heat in the area from adding the plates, and that effect on other components, I wondered the same thing

So far I haven’t had any issues with heat buildup, I sat idling for long time running the AC to cool off after getting heat stress and wasn’t an issue. I think while moving the air flow keeps the heat dissipated.

I think if you were to order just the cat from Toyota, all are the same part number (at least on the 2.5 gen). Once they're cut, though; you'll have to get piping, and Toyota's part for that is an assembly with both cats attached.

Once a thief is under your truck he's going to get what he can, so if the rears are exposed they'll still be taken. If a thief has time to spend cutting out a plate, the 3/16" steel will obviously be better than the 1/4" aluminum; but it's a deterrent, not a preventative either way, so the metal and gauge will impact how much of a deterrent they can be. If he (I mean, or she) is looking for the 1-minute payoff, they won't spend the brain cells doing math on how to cut through plates; they'll just move on.

My rears are still exposed right now, as Tyler will be updating the rear plate just a tad, and the risk footpirnt of exposure in the interim is worth having the (even slightly) better product for the long term, at least to me. I don't have any worries about heat with the plates being steel, as they have plenty of ventilation; and the added strength both for their primary purpose and as skid protection gives me a little better peace of mind.

The Penta-bolts are just what they sound like, and Tyler will send a socket for them when you order. You can also order (separately) bolt head protectors, which will help prevent access via vise-grips, and help keep the bolt heads from getting sheared off by an angry terrain.

Whichever direction you go, you're thinking right.

Good eyes. Yea they are. Put them on the underside as well as the Z bracket mounts. Got them from Barnes 4WD.

    Oh that's funny. :p
My employer says they are not responsible for what happens in their parking because it is a public parking lot.
Even though only 1% of it is used for public parking and 99% is for employee parking.
I took my police report and repair estimate to loss prevention a couple of weeks ago.
They said they would look into it, meaning I'll never hear from them about it.
They only care about what part-time employees are stealing from the hub.

In 1995 I had my Kenwood HU stolen twice out of 1994 ext cab step side Chevy Silverado.
The POSs stole it, waited until I replaced it, and stole it again.
Even back then the company said they weren't responsible.

    TEXAS!
i dig it. found this over the weekend, and heavily considering this as a replacement for the desert eagle i currently have installed. transfer case blocks access to the driver rear, however, my passenger rear is still somewhat exposed.

can the back piece that covers the rear cats be "folded" down by sticky-handed folks in order to gain access to the rear cats?

from the pics i see on their website, it looks like someone determined could bend this piece down.

or, does the back piece use other truck parts to block any bending?

did you go 1/8 or 3/16 route?

hope this makes sense... this is still the best protection i've seen.

    RB,

They'll send you everything you need - the 4 that go into the frame are stainless security bolts and there are 4 more that go through the frame utilizing existing holes that are standard bolts with lock nuts. The bolts that hold the wings and rear shield in place are also security bolts and they send you the bit for those. I was pretty pleased all around with the quality of the shield and the hardware. I bought a rivet nut installation tool just for this job, but you don't technically need one. I got it just because it looks crazy useful and I'm not sure how I didn't know about them before :)

    Rusty,

I got the 3/16 main plate but the rear and wings are 1/8. The way this sticks up in there I think you'd have a tough time bending it down in any way that was useful. Even if you did, all that gives you is access to the rear part of the rear cats - you still have to get through the main plate to access the front. All in all I think that a determined person could cut this all away but I estimate that I added 20 minutes or more to their effort. Time is not the Cat thief's friend, so I don't think many would stick at it that long...

I got them within a week to ten days. Their customer service was excellent- the first shipment had the incorrect wings and they had the new ones out to me for overnight shipping the next day. I think you’ll be pleased with the results...

Any front plate will work with the RCI engine skid. Any transmission skid plate will have to me removed. The front cat plate alone is not enough protection for the cats.

I have the Desert Eagle front (Valhalla wasn't started yet at that time), and both rear plates are Valhalla. I have security bolts from Screwd.
