I will purchase some grape seed oil like @Kanobi13 suggested. Looks like the best way to season.

    Thanks @Sunnier for the link!

Just did bacon in them! I got super worried, pan was a little too hot, bacon it it and stuck! But i did a light scrape after a minute with plastic spatula, gave it all a good stir and they have no more sticking! I think it’s looking good

Yes yes! I lowered it and did a good stir. I think i used to let my pans get too hot before dumping eggs in them. At least my first experiment after a long seasoning process has zero stuck on bacon chips!

Get yourself a good stainless steel spatula, something with a nice straight edge. Plastic spatulas are for non-stick pans.

everything im reading says wood/silicone only for cast iron. Stainless will scrape seasoning off the bottom? I used to use stainless until i read this

Agreed. The seasoning isn’t that delicate. I only use a carbon steel spatula, and have no issues. I also clean my pans with soap every time I use them, and chain mail when stuff gets stuck on. No issues.

With everything, sometimes one wins and other times we have fails.

This is a story of fail.

What's the thoughts on stripping cast iron using the self clean setting of the oven? I have several pieces that need to be completely stripped and reseasoned.

Sounds like a good way to stank up your house. Never done it myself, I use a homemade electrolysis tank. Pretty simple to setup, and very effective.

Lard, Crisco, or bacon grease are preferable to any kind of oil for seasoning or re-seasoning. Oil can become rancid. I have a complete set of skillets I keep in the oven when not in use, and yes, they are the original and ultimate non-stick, if taken care of properly.

It really is. This is my co-workers pan. We just put it in the oven at 400*F and do an additional seasoning along with my griddle that got messed up the other night.
