CarPlay startup … a little geeky but kind of fun

That was a no go. Ask for input doesn't allow for voice input, only text. I tried to have it dictate the response and then validate it but I couldn't get it to do what I wanted. Will keep diggin.

 

Could you have "dictate text" as the input for the "ask for input" action?

Anyone else notice Siri’s inflection at the end of a sentence is “off” - like her intonation up and it doesn’t sound right?

 

She's probably getting tired of all the "Tundra" drivers making her say the weather and the time... lol

 

I switched mine to an English dude. The accent felt more accurate when telling me not to fart in the truck

 

I added some more stuff to the end of the greeting and stuff. I added a 1 second pause and then it speaks a random quote from a bunch of movie quotes.

I’ve been trying to figure this out. There’s a way but I’ve not yet cracked the code. I just added random movie quotes to mine. My intention was that they be audio clips. For now it’s just spoken text like the rest of it.

I figured it out.

there are probably other ways to do this. But this works for me.

First I created a folder in my iCloud Drive on my iPhone. I called it soundclips. Then I downloaded a bunch of clips and saved them as mp3. You need to make sure you have ToolBox Pro. The free version will work for this.

After that I added the new commands after my original spoken text.

Use the shuffle command from Toolbox Pro. You’ll have it shuffle the files in your soundclips folder. This will enable it to play a different clip randomly each time. You’ll see how it works when you start, but you’ll hit the + in this command to select each clip that you want to shuffle. Turn on limit and limit to 1.

Then you need the Base64 encode command. It’s under scripting/files in shortcuts. There you encode the shuffled list. You have to select the magic variable to select the Shuffled list.

add the play sound command and you are going to play the shuffled list.

note: I have Pause on iPhone all the way at the beginning to pause my music. Then added Play on iPhone to start it back up after the clip plays.

Anyone have MyQ garage door opener? Trying to auto open/close garage when I arrive/leave. Looks like I have to buy another $99 gadget to enable it with HomeKit.

 

MyQ sucks for any kind of API integration, or at least that was the case when I checked it a couple years ago. They charged for an extra subscription if you wanted to do any third party automation. What’s the $99 gadget? Just an updated Homelink bridge?

 

yeah, a homelink bridge. I was able to find a way to invoke the open/close commands via API using the same endpoints that the MyQ app is using - but it’s kinda hacky and requires constant changes as tokens change.

 

Someone mentioned earlier that iOS 15.2.1 is out and it helps with CarPlay issues. I installed it this morning and can attest to this. Waze required multiple restarts after 15 was installed. Now it comes right up just fine.

 

I can't even figure out how to get the different weather options like this?
I guess I'm too old..

 

This thread is awesome. Got the greeting setup like the first 1-2 pages, but will delve into making(copying) something more complex as y'all do more legwork.

Hi Jeff, I have been experimenting with the Carplay Shortcuts. What action is needed to make a Shortcut to begin after the initial startup Shortcut is played, and the Tundra has been restarted? Thanks for the write up.

 

This is awesome, is there a way to add pause, or delay in between texts before it reads out the next line? i.e. Do you have your wallet? Do you your mask? Do you have enough gas? When it's played, it sounds like a run on sentence lol

 

there is probably a better way to do this but you could break it up into separate text items and use the WAIT command between each. I’ve not tried that as I suspect the breaks would be too long.

you can also change the rate of speech. It’ll still sound a little like a robot, but it does help make it flow a little better.

 

This was working flawlessly yesterday. Changed a few things around now last night and now it doesn’t work, any ideas?
This is the error messages I get. Any help would greatly be appreciated.
