CarPlay startup … a little geeky but kind of fun

How do you format the weather variables to 0 decimals? I've tried several things and it always says xx.x instead of just xx degrees.

 

You choose Format Number then change it to 0

 

What is your shorter version?

 

This is pretty cool. Thanks for the write up. Now I just need a chance to get my headunit installed so I actually have CarPlay.
Though I do use it in my company truck so guess I need to give it a try.

 

I love this!! After I read this thread, I went and basically copied the OP’s setup (and sprinkled a little extra nerd on it. First time it fired off, I got a blatant facepalm from my wife). I already know that I’ll be goofing around with this app more.

Is it possible to display a picture or video from your phone to the radio while playing the text? It would be cool to see the KITT voice bars on the screen

 

Thanks for posting this. I’ve been annoyed by iOS 15.x nerfing background apps, so I seem to always have to open Waze and Spotify on my phone to get them to play nicely in CarPlay. I set up a basic automation to launch the apps and play music when connecting, so this looks like it should solve the issue. Someday I’ll mess with it some more and do more sophisticated things, but this is handy as hell.

 

I got that part. But it doesn't affect what is spoken.

I’ve not been able to solve for that one yet. I’ll post it up if I can figure it out.

 

Mine seems to be working well. Having the same temp decimal issue.

one thing mine is doing, and it may be more of my radio, is that after the greeting my audio is lower than before. The number of the volume is the same, but it’s almost as if the “loud” feature is turned off.

I sometimes get this with Waze as well but then it usually goes back up when I switch to Google maps and back to Waze. It’s very strange.

 

Pretty fun to see a bunch of geeks nerding out over stuff like this. I’m definitely going to be messing around with this myself. Thanks!

I’m gonna guess not. The CarPlay screen is pretty locked down by apple. There probably is though a way to make something show on your phone

 

I’ve seen this happen when opening apps that require an internet connection (like playing music). Common with wireless CarPlay since no wi-fi.

I have trouble with the music sometimes because my phone sometimes stays connected to my home WiFi when I’m in my driveway. I was trying to figure out a good trigger to turn WiFi on/off on my phone before connecting to CarPlay thinking that might force me over to cellular. I don’t know if it would do any good though.

 

Anyone try with wireless carplay? I just ordered a Carlink..

 

I had this happen a lot when using the Waze beta (Test Flight) where Waze would hijack the audio like it had a notification, but the volume just stayed attenuated. Killing the app on the phone or switching to Google Maps like you mentioned usually fixed it. I uninstalled and reinstalled Waze and that seemed to fix it in my case. Wonder if your automation greeting is hanging at the end, or if Waze is the culprit?

 

I have wireless CarPlay on my Pioneer. No issues with Shortcuts so far.

 

No issues on mine as well.

 

If you want Siri to greet you with Good Morning, or Good Afternoon, or Good Evening [State your name], I used this one with some mods.

removed the text to speech portions and invoked the entire shortcut script into my own shortcut. The resulting value (Text) is then used to say,

[Good morning variable] Commander Cornelius.





kinda cool instead of just Hi.
