Recently had the TRD lift installed and not sure if they performed any updates to the radio but I later noticed that my phone wasn't connected. I go through the connection procedure and I get the error for carplay connection (see photo). The pairing number on my phone and the screen is the same. It appears to connect but when I click "yes" for carplay, I get the error. I also noticed that I started getting warnings on the Toyota app saying the doors are unlocked and/or back passenger window is down. I've clicked "forget this device" several times to start over but nothing works.

yes, I have restarted my phone. It's very annoying because when I start the connection procedure, it will show as connected on my phone (under bluetooth). But once I go through the prompts on the radio screen, it give the error when I choose carplay.

Sometimes if you plug your phone into the jack to the right of the controls on the dash it will reconnect. Mine has done this as well. Also happens with car play in my wife's Subaru. Its a car play thing. Hers always connects when plugged in.
What kind of lift did you get?

This afternoon, I plugged my phone using the USB. While plugged, everything worked fine. When I unplug it, there's no connection. I'm stumped.

I have had similar issues. PIA when trying to make a phone call while driving. If I try to call using the steering wheel controls if often tells me to connect my phone. When I call from the phone it will connect. Once connected I am then able to use the steering wheel controls.

Stopped by my dealer on Saturday; the tech on duty couldn't figure it out. We were able to connect the phone to the truck via bluetooth but during the pairing process, we had to select "no" when it asked if i want to use apple car play. If I select "yes", it won't connect at all. My dealership is about 80 miles away; guess I'll wait until my first dealership oil change to have them check it out

Had a similar issue, solution is to turn off your phones wifi, select phone and hit connect. That should fix it. Not sure why but if your phone is connected to something else through wifi example maybe a dash cam or maybe just WiFi alone, it doesn’t cooperate with CarPlay.

I am not saying that's what you're experiencing but when I was having issues with CarPlay connection it was because my son's iPhone or iPad was connected to my personal hotspot. So the issue definitely lies with the phone WiFi.

Great, thanks! Yeah, I just tried it with a different phone and it worked. Much better to have it on my phone side and not the truck.

Same issue here - any luck on what may fix it? Seems to be a service/connection issue even though i have it plugged in USB...

Here’s what I think I did, and I got it to work this morning. (I have 2 phones, so was trying originally to make one join CarPlay and one join just via Bluetooth and stay on wifi, and was messing with iPhone settings, causing the issue).

    1. I turned Auto-Join back ON on the “smartphone_connect…” wifi network.
    2. In iphone settings I went to CarPlay, clicked the tundra, and turned both settings ON “CarPlay” & “enhanced intervention.” (I had turned one off while messing with stuff).

I think that was it. Hope that helps!

My iPhone is connected and makes phone calls using the wifi. I never connected by Bluetooth. Hope that helps. If you talk a lot while driving connect using the usb to the right for uninterrupted connection.

This fixed my issue. It's strange that wifi would cause a carplay issue.

I have spent HOURS trying to figure out why I lost my wireless CarPlay. THIS was the solution!!! Thank you so much. I went to the dealer so much I think I’m banned. I could connect to any truck in their lot except my own! You need to send this to Toyota corporate, as I spent way to much time on the phone with them too trying to figure this out. Thanks again.

Myself, I think it's a Apple iphone issue. Everytime I start having connection problems with my Tundra, I need to update my ios on my iphone. Once I update the ios, everything starts working okay, until the next update is needed. I think Apple has programmed bugs into their software, in order, to get users to update to the newest operating system. I'm seriously thinking of switching to Android.

Too early to say if this is a permanent fix, but it did seem to help just now. For anyone needing a little more info with #1, you have to log off CarPlay in order to find that WiFi network. Disable CarPlay, go to your phones WiFi selection and it will be there. Change the setting as described, then go back and turn back on CarPlay in the truck.

I hear you. I just have a little more faith in Apple to protect my privacy than I do Google. Google's business model is to collect all my data and sell it.
I know I shouldn't trust any of them. But like I said, I trust Apple a little more.

I am having the same problem.
My truck is on software version 2050.
I did not have the problem, before the 2050 update.
Sometimes CarPlay connects, sometimes it just says "CarPlay connection error.
    Very frustrating. :(

I have a similar issue with carplay with my aftermarket hu. Sometimes when i start the truck it auto starts carplay and life is good. Others it connects to my hu via bluetooth but not carplay. In settings under general i go to carplay and them turn on and off, it also seems related to LTT from carplay, if those dont connect it correctly i then open Amazon music or waze from my phone and refresh the content by clicking on a new station, and then it usually works. Definitely a pain in the ass.

On a side note, i recently purchased a fukin tuned throttle device and without realizing that it wont work with carplay as it is presently you cant connect bluetooth to carplay and the app that is needed for the throttle device to work at the same time. There was a mention above about connecting via wi fi but ive yet to be able to make that work in my truck. The company rep for FT told me they are currently working on an update that will allow and work with carplay but didnt know when that will happen.

Hey android db, ive had both phones for years dont act like your os is some revelation without flaw. Maybe find something else thats actually worth noting to set yourself apart from everyone as superior, that is if your self worth is reliant on complete strangers and the type of phone they have.
