Thanks for the heads up. Buying one now. Stupid nanny state is annoying.

Found out my knockoff "Techstream" cable got fried at some point and errors out when connecting to my laptop. Rather than re-buying the bootleg setup, I picked up the Carista dongle off Amazon for $20. It's great that there's a legit way to reprogram some of these settings, AND the adapter works with a ton of 3rd party apps. Thanks for posting this @Cement

Does anyone know if Carista can turn off the auto moving of the driver seat and steering wheel on enter and exit? I have seen that TechStream can but not Carista.

Yeah I don't understand why Toyota doesn't make it easy to turn stuff like that off. The owners manual says you can by holding one of the set buttons and pressing the unlock on the fob but it didn't work for me. Don't mind paying for Carista if it can change that but will do techstrean if it can't.

So with further investigation you can turn off the seat movement through the options in the stereo unit while parked. The steering wheel needs to be turn off with techstream or dealer.

For those with this dongle/app I just want to confirm you can adjust blinker default settings? Currently my 19' sport is set to "3" flashes, and I'd like to adjust that to either 4 or 5 flashes. Is this possible? Thank you.

I Honestly cannot recall (and never ended up paying for it after the free/intro window of time or I would just look). I know I was able to adjust that on my Audi using it though if that helps?

One great thing about the Carista app and dongle is they can be used on a wide variety of vehicles by a wide variety of manufacturers such as Audi, BMW, GM, Ford and a bunch of others.

I had a BAFX BT Dongle that I had purchased for Torque. Since it uses the 'ELM' protocol, this worked perfectly with Carista!

Was able to play with all the options. $10 is a great deal to avoid going to the dealer or having to install Techstream. Must remember to cancel within a month so I don't get hit with another fee.

Not sure what I changed, here's what I remember:
    - Disable seatbelt chimes
    - ALL doors unlock upon unlocking driver's door
    - Prevent locking doors if one is still open
    - Disabled the remove 'panic' button (worth $10 by itself...)

    Highly recommended!

Cancel right now. You still get the full month you paid for, it just won't auto renew at the end of it. Whenever I use Carista I literally subscribe to a single month, then cancel the subscription as soon as it goes through. Also, by "prevent locking doors if one is still open" are you saying you disabled that? So you can lock your doors even if one of them is open? I haven't seen that one in Carista, but that "feature" is one of my biggest Toyota pet peeves.

So can you subscribe - go clear the dealer service reminder then cancel it and pay nothing??

No. You pay the $10 for a single month's premium membership, but you don't have to remember to cancel it after 29 days or whatever. You can just immediately cancel it so that it doesn't auto renew and charge you another $10. At least in the iPhone version there's no way to just buy a single month. You have to subscribe to a recurring monthly charge, but if you cancel immediately it never recurs. It's just a way of insuring that you only buy a single month.

So does this mean you can only use the unit one time if you don’t keep paying the $10 a month?

Pretty much. With that said, it's so easy to use, frankly I wouldn't have an issue paying for another $10 to enable it for a month.

You can use it as many times as you want for the month that you paid for the service. If you buy a month today and cancel the auto renew immediately, you've still purchased a month. That subscription doesn't expire until a month later. Honestly, though I typically only go into that menu once. Scroll down the list, change the things I want to change, and I'm done. If you mean the obd reader, you can continue to use that with other apps. I personally use OBD Fusion on iOS, but Torque is probably the most popular on Android. Those apps will do all kinds of things for you, but Carista is the only one with similar capabilities to Techstream.

Yes, you can pick. I don't remember what I selected. My intent was make it such that the car won't lock if a door is open. But now that I think about, maybe I don't really want that. My passengers (kids) tend to take their sweet time getting out of the car and I'm already 10 steps ahead of them and just want to lock the car. Not sure which way to go.

Anyway, it's in there, see the original post with the list of settings:

    Thanks for this.
I had a 2016 Expedition EL before my Tundra and used a program called ForScan. You could change so many different things but it was a lot more involved and actual computer coding involved. There were a few plain English toggle on and off things but not many.
I was able to turn on the remote start function. Just had to buy the proper key fob for $30. Dealer wanted about $350. You could also program key fobs.
I also activated the trailer brake and turned on the gain display in the dash. Just had to buy the factory brake controller and plug it in the harness that was already behind the dash. Cost $80 dealer wanted $400.

I’ll grab this for a couple changes on the Tundra.
I wish my wife’s Suburban was supported but it is not.
If you close a door with it running it honks the horn twice. So annoying when I am loading kids in the car in the morning or car line.

Just used Carista on my 2019 to de-Nanny as much as possible, well worth the $10. Glad I saw this thread, thanks.

Does Carista still exist? I went to their website with the intent to buy the dongle but they send me to an Amazon page which doesn't exist. I live in Canada, but I can't find anything from Carista either on Amazon.ca or Amazon.com

I need to turn off that seatbelt beep before I get angry enough to take the seatbelt buckle apart.

Hopefully someone who has used carista can answer. 2013 sequoia

    1. Will Carista allow me to reprogram/add a fob and delete fobs?

    2. Will carista allow me to activate/program a new key?
