As for why you would race a Mustang? Not saying you would, just that even after all that $$$ and effort your truck is still not going to be particularly quick in the realm of performance oriented motor vehicles.

 

What about wrapping a cf sleeve over the oem driveshaft, making a sort of DS slider, maybe flared at the end as to not catch the diff snout. Teflon might be better, but cf would be cooler.

 

I wouldn't be purposely lining up to one expecting to win at a 1/4 like he mentioned. I agree beating up up on some sports cars is always fun.

 

I do have to admit beating up on guys who think their car is fast is pretty fun.

Just gotta realize there’s some stuff out there that is truly NASTY right out of the box. Then again poking those bears just to see what they can do is fun too if you’re really an enthusiast.

Unrelated to the driveshaft, but I see plenty of mustangs getting whooped at a stoplight by a SC tundra, not that I condone such things… several of us on this page hitting 60 in 4.5 in 4x4 on 35s and excess weight lol. We have dragys to prove it. And those times assume the mustang driver has the required skill to achieve them. Any fudd can launch a 4x4 fast.

Make it to 60 first it would def come down to driver, to me that's saying something when your truck can do that !

 

I dunno, I lost all interest in making heavy ICE cars fast when I rode in my first electric car. Those things are freaking ridiculous in a straight line. Every time I think about making any ICE faster I look at the cost for new electric car…

 

Gonna admit: I'm finding it increasingly difficult to lose 15 pounds ... so maybe this win win out over decreased and calories and more exercise.

 

I can do better than that. Leave my wife at home and get a bonus benefit of not having that obnoxious screeching sound coming from the passenger side.

 

For a little context to this driveshaft for everyone jumping on the dogpile, the original purchaser on the boosted page who had it built is going to have a lowered truck with a built engine making over 20psi and probably 800hp. He didn’t have it made for weight savings but to avoid the issue of the driveshaft blowing apart at 140mph and then tearing through the gas tank and bottom of the bed. He figured if this one breaks it will just shatter, it wasn’t about weight savings that was just an added benefit.

Do the rest of us actually need this driveshaft? Definitely not.

 

I'm pretty sure that was my point. I mean it's cool, in that fast vehicles are almost always cool, but doing a group buy for these is silly.

Agreed, that said if OP wants one for his build and can organize a few others from this page that are also interested in order to get a discounted price on an order of 5-10 driveshafts I don’t blame him. More power to him!

This has got to help fuel economy, dropping 15lbs of rotating mass is not a small change. Have any real world numbers showing the difference a guy can expect?
