We also have a lot of van life and YOLO crowd out here. I don't like that companies hire foreign workers on the work visas especially when they take American jobs, but I am seeing a bit why they do it.

Yep. There seems to be very many decent IT jobs here in Denver Metro. As far as engineering and tech positions, there is Lockheed Martin, Raytheon Intelligence, Ball Aerospace, ULA, SpaceX , and Woodward to name a few. All offering great salaries and benefits. Nothing they make is outsourced. These are all large companies and offer good IT positions, especially if you can get a clearance if required. That changes everything.

I doubt I could afford an equal sized house in a decent hood in or around Denver and the city and state politics there wouldn't fit my lifestyle very well.

There's good workers out there, I have an entire team under my management in AZ (that's being taken away from my management, but that's another story and large part of why I'm leaving but I digress)

Denver/Front Range has gotten very expensive. Crazy. There's a wage war going on between a lot of companies here. People moving away. Schools closing. It's simply too expensive for a lot of folks, but Colorado has some nice things to do and see. Definitely plus's and minus's. You can still hunt, fish, go 4 wheeling. Lots of open space and altitude!

My wife’s school district has an infinite amount of positions that have been open and continue open indefinitely. They need many IT positions filled but but their pay…even with experience is laughable (under 21hr). I’m on my military pension and disability, living comfortably, I’m looking to get back to work now that the kids are older but not willing to take work for crap wages especially with 20 years experience.

So this is funny. Email we received for our trash pickup. This was Thursday:

    Saturday morning:

    7B6CAC75-58B0-470F-86F1-1092CB1B8543.jpg

    GFL pay scale:

So a trash pickup driver is offered more than a IT employee….by 26k dollars.

Years ago we had issues with the trash person missing our house every week, and only us. I started calling but they said they had 24-48 hours to pick it up so they couldn’t credit me. So I waited to call 2 days, then a supervisor said he would put a GPS whatever on the truck to make sure it got my trash, still had 4-6 occasions where it didn’t get picked up and got credit on the bill. Thankfully it hasn’t happened in a while

Honestly, tech 1 IT job is easier than the driver job. I'd say they should be paid more.

It happens all the time here. If we have 2” of snow it’s delayed. Lord forbid we get a foot or two. It’s an excuse.
I was raised in Montana and they never missed a pickup. The weather is a tad bit more harsh….but just a tad.

Sorry if ur one of the good teachers but schools have beco.e nothing but indoctrination centers, project veritas has been doing a good job of exposing that. Homeschool is the way to go.

I don't condone any indoctrination. I'm also not part of the teacher union leading the charge (AFT). Homeschooling is incredibly stressful on parents (when done correctly) and many families who depend on dual incomes obviously can't swing it.

I've also seen several homeschooled students come back to public school a solid grade level or two behind their peers.

And yet, many public school systems around the country are graduating kids who can’t read at an 8th grade level. It’s appalling. The homeschool kids I know run their own businesses, speak like adults, look you in the eye, know how to set/meet goals, and take care of their own finances. One of my buddy’s kids who graduated a few years ago just bought the exact same camera that Top Gun Maverick was shot on ($$$$$) because he’s doing photography and video since he was in high school and is now landing some really big projects here in town.

The idea that you absolutely need a dual income is a myth that way too many people buy into. You might need to have fewer toys, buy cheaper vehicles, or move to a different neighborhood, but it’s far more doable than most people think.

Read my words again, I didn't say all people who homeschooled need dual incomes nor did I say it's a mandatory condition. Truth be told, I've spent all of my career in Title I schools (high socioeconomic deficiencies and high at-risk students) and there are very few families who could survive if they had to home school their kids. Simply put their kids would not receive an education because there would be no one home to provide it. Many of my students don't have dual parent households and many don't even live with their parents. Fact is, we had several students in my old school who are homeless.

Yes, nationally speaking, the data shows that homeschooled students are higher than their public schooled counterparts but I'm here to say that it isn't the case in my experience and you cannot refute what my experience is.

    Piss test are hilarious.
You can take any manner of doctor prescribed opiates, drink yourself silly every night, and pile your brain full of coke no problem, but smoke a joint after work? Thats an automatic fail.

I get it. I’m just providing some input on the other side of the issue. The homeschooled kids who can’t read or write is largely a trope these days that survives only because too many people remember that being the reality 20-30 years ago. They’ve surpassed their public school counterparts, generally speaking, because (1) involved parents care more than anyone else about how their own kids do, and (2) no public school will hold kids back who need to be held back any more. Students are simply passed on and graduated even, in many cases, when they can’t read or do basic arithmetic.

But I really do disagree with the idea that two-parent families *require* a dual income. I think that idea is a byproduct of marketing and of our current cultural zeitgeist that says mothers are absolutely essential in the workplace yet not essential in the home.

I'll be the first to tell you our education system is jacked up and needs serious reform from the ground up. I won't even go into the specific perspective I have from the special education side of things... it's the basis for the necessity of reform. Parents and teachers need to take control of the education laws, not politicians who never taught a day in their manicured lives.

Largest issue I run into around here. Deep South, they value paper education over skilled knowledgeable people.
Not everyone has a college education, and college educated people aren’t going to work for a local county or state level at the rate of pay they offer.

People get passed over with years of experience, for someone without a clue as to how things in the real world works.
What ever happened to on job training like old trades used to do? If it worked for them why not have it now?

I sometimes think this country is past the point of return. I will probably get blasted for this but I think a lot of the downfall began with both parents working and the destruction of the nuclear family. It used to be where hard work would get you a small house in the burbs with a picket fence, a car, and 2.5 kids. I do think ppl, can still make it on hard work alone, but so many young ppl want the new cell phone, starbucks every morning and to go out with friends every night and all the toys. Also a lot of ppl don't know how to do things for themselves. I bought my first house for 30k. It was 800 sq. ft and I remodeled it myself over 15 years, paid it off and then sold it for 85k and used the equity to by my next home. OK rant over before I get my BP up.
