Are there any truck owner in Canada that drives around in winter without a cover?

 

Without a Tonneau?

I do. No cover, open box, year round and I don't plan on adding one.

 

I have to say, this is probably first time I've seen that, may I ask how come?

 

First time you've seen no tonneau on a Canadian Tundra?

I bought a truck do do truck stuff. A Tonneau would get in the way.

If I had wanted it covered year round, I would have spent a few more bucks and bought a 4Runner.

Too rich for my blood.. but yeah, I guess that would be the covered version.

Even the 4Runner was pricey when we looked and our of my comfort level for price.

What do you do when the bed is full and going down the hwy? are you using a net?

no, trucks without tonneau just so rare here that I don't recall seeing them other than guys with auxiliary tanks.

 

No cover on my trucks. I had a cap on my Tacoma for a bit when I was using it as a grocery getter, but normally I don't bother with any kind of cover on the bed. I have great big rubbermaid totes if I need to keep something out of the weather. Snow in the bed is just extra weight for traction.

 

Yeah, a 4R costs as much as a Tundra and is less capable. And a Sequoia costs more.

 

No, my brother drives a GM.

 

I would say around here open beds are most common then tonneau covers are second most popular. Very few canopies.

 

Is that due to Alberta pricing?

 

I use big Plano boxes when camping and/or a fancy cargo net to secure stuff hauling around city if I feel it's going to blow out. Trips to the dump, it's a must or they issue a fine.

Or basic Ratchet Straps, which I keep in the truck at all times.

I paid $38+tax for my new SR5. I couldn't get anything in the 4Runner lineup for that.

 

I have ratchet straps to keep things from moving around. Most things aren't going to fly out of the bed unless they are very light.

 

That is pretty incredible price for a new Tundra.

My wife actually has a 4R, I like the way it drives a lot that pushed me to get the Tundra, the price tag is a bit high but I do think you get what you paid for.

I have to do garbage runs with the truck, so all the recycle cardboards would just fly away, as it did the first time I drove a truck to do garbage runs, I also learned people would leave garbage in the uncovered bed when parked outside, worst one was someone left icecream in my bed at ikea.

 

We do a Cardboard recycling run about every two weeks (Amazon orders are frequent here) and I've never had to strap or tie the cardboard down.

Our recycling depot is in the city though, so I'm only going 60km/h for 10km or so.

 

I guess so? Haven't investigated what Toyota charges for them elsewhere. But the cost of the Sequoia vs the Tundra is similar to what GM charges for a Tahoe vs a Silverado or a Ford Expedition vs an F150.

 

I've never had an issue with things flying out of the bed of my truck, but if I'm worried about I strap it down just in case.

Shitty parts of town definitely need a cover on your bed. I've had garbage left in my truck in parking lots, and empties stolen too. I've also had a few coffees left on my hood.

 

Definitely couldn’t go without a tonneau cover here. I often remove mine when I need to do “truck stuff” but it stays on when hunting and fishing to keep gear dry and or not covered in snow. Also somewhat secure, keeps the honest people out at least.

 

Same here. We live in a nice town but the downtown core has a bit of a sketchy demographic. Someone took my truck for a joy ride while we were in the hospitals nursery when our son was born. Nothing was stolen except my change, parking pass and truck key. I had a soft cover which I stored my tools under. Recently upgraded to a cap since I'm needing to carry my miter saw, table saw, compressor and a thousand other tools. They just couldn't fit under the cover but no issue with the cap. I did like the look with the cover more. Eventually will upgrade to a trailer and keep the truck cleared out of tools.

last night I drove to Estevan, SK. -40
I haven’t seen these weather yet as I was always in AB.

 

It's been -25 high during the day, -30 at night. Around -35 with windchill during the day.

They were saying we normally have 10-12 days of -30 or lower but have only had 2 this year. Definitely a cold spell, but still a very good winter weather wise this year.

Martha was frosty today on our walk/run. It's supposed to warm up to a balmy -15 tomorrow.

 

We're supposed to be all the way up to -9 on the weekend. Might be warm enough for an outdoor visit with my parents.

Yep provinces east of us are receiving the old Alberta Clipper. After we come off a good chinook, a harsh cold front moves your way

 

No Chinook up here... Damn it's cold and snowy this week.

 

Sure was, but I'm heading back to work tomorrow so the sun will return. Of course I can't have nice weather for my week off.
