Its nice theyre not all Chelsea boots. Or non for that matter. I dont get why blundstones are so popular. I tried a pair and they just wobble on your feet because they cant be laced. And the steel toe just peels away. Im sure it works for some but surely its partly a fad. I will keep rocking my helly hansens and windrivers.

I buy most of my boots at Mark's. The company is Canadian but I'm not sure where their boots are made.
For work boots, I mostly buy Dakotas because they're about the only ones wide enough for my fat feet and they seem to last pretty well. My company will pay for a new pair every year but I hate shoe shopping and they change the styles often enough that I have a hard time finding something I like.
My last two pairs of hikers (for personal use) have been Wind River. The first pair cost more than I was used to spending at the time but they lasted a lot longer than I expected. The new pair was listed at an even higher price but they were on sale half off because they were the "previous year's style" (if that's even a real thing for men's boots).

    Boots!!!! I love boots. :D

I learned the hard way to never cheap out on things that go between you and the earth like tires and boots.

Work - Red Wing. There are none better imho. Get the cork insoles as well and swap out the laces for Iron Laces. I get 2+ years out of a pair of boots working in a welding shop. That should give you an idea of quality. I'm on my 3rd pair of boots with the same set of laces, swapped into each new pair. Iron Laces are simply the best.

Hiking - Salmon 4D GTX with Red Wing cork insoles and Iron Laces. Great boot, super light. I may try the Lowa Renegade next though as it comes highly recommended.

Duty - Danner side zip. Dad used them for years as a firefighter along with most of his dept and I sold them to dozens of police officers, fish cops and corrections officers when I managed a store that sold them. Never had any complaints.

A friend who served in Afghanistan used Danner combat boots and had them serve 2 tours. His third tour he had to get a new pair after his first were blown up by an IED. He had them hanging on the outside of a LAV to dry out while wearing his backup boots when the explosion hit. Danner sent him a new pair for free.

I have yet to shoot a bear. I dabbled in it a bit when I hunted in BC, but haven't tried it here in AB. I don't like bear meat and have nobody to give it to here.

I hear ya. No point, if you’re not a fan of the meat. :)

It’s definitely not my favorite ‘allround’ meat. But we’ve come up with some recipes we really like over the years. Just took us awhile. Haha.

I like good boots as much as I like good trucks too.

Red wing for work as well - usually get 3 years out of a pair where most boots are done in < 1 year in the truck shop. Well worth the 20-25% higher price.

Irish setter hunting boots (by Red Wing) -now there’s my most expensive footwear to date. I haven’t regretted the nearly $400 yet though.

Vasque hiking boots have served me pretty well too.

Bear meat is a favourite in our house, but I cut my own and trim ALL the fat. Usually make some roasts from the nicer cuts, and grind everything else. I do hunt them far and away from (un)civilization to make sure to not get a garbage bear too.

My wife makes a pot roast in the slow cooker with tomato gravy and veggies that is to die for with bear roasts. You don’t need a knife it’s so tender, and the meat has never been dry. With the ground meat I can’t tell the difference to lean beef once cooked. I really think that trimming all the fat makes a huge difference.

That's good. :) I did have bear sausage one time and it was ok. It was a summer sausage iirc.

My cousins in Sask love bear meat. I'm hoping to do an archery hunt with them one of these years on their property. I enjoy the hunt and I really want a rug but I won't shoot something if the meat will go to waste. If I can hunt their land, give them all the meat and keep the hide I'll be happy.

I wish we had better trails around here....and that I had a better bike. LOL.

I got invited to go to the gun range today. I'm on the fence. I should but I feel lazy...

For sure. I mean, I have that new 45/70 I still haven't had a chance to shoot yet. But the range is a 1 hour drive away...

Nah, didn't go. My friends were supposed to call around noon if they were still going. Never got a call and I was wrapped up in projects until 2 so I didn't even notice the time. Oh well.

It’s so not right, on so many levels. Especially how they did it. There’s definitely more to come. They’re already changing their talking points.

I'm not a gun guy, so the ban doesn't affect or bother me either way (edit: in terms of gun ownership).

But I do know this....crime guns will find a way into criminals hands, no matter what the laws are. And most crime guns are sawed off 22s, 303s or Lee Enfields, as they are a dime a dozen, so the assault rifle ban won't change much in terms of crime.

The gun ban affects gun owners and angers us. The way the govenment did it should anger every single canadian. They used a process that was never intended to be used for major legal changes. The Order In Council is for mundane, day to day things that don't require the sitting of Parliament, not for sweeping bans and forfeiture of personal property. People who don't own guns say this doesn't affect them. Yes, yes it does. Once they have our guns, they could just as easily use it to ban V8 engines, sports cars, alcohol, german shepherd dogs, freedom of speech, books and media outlets that don't sing the party line or anything else they deem unworthy. It's a very slippery slope that this nation is on and canadians seem more than happy to slide down it.

That's as political as I'll get here. I'll just encourage all canadians to look at this very very closely and do some research on the OIC, the democratic process and the fallacy that is our system.

I hope this isn't too political for this site but here goes nothing.

I agree that how these new gun restrictions were brought in seems pretty sketchy. However, I hate how the current administration can't do anything without getting shit all over. Remember when a previous administration tried to muzzle reporters who had anything negative to say about the PM at the time? Sure, a couple journalists were upset but the average person didn't care one whiff. If the current government did that, every person across the country would be screaming. So why do blue administrations consistently get away with murder while red or orange ones can't even do their jobs?

    Well said @Outbound .

I guess it is a gateway to allow them to ban or restrict other things in the future.

This is why I got my restricted license while it’s still available.

Our freedom slowly is turning into ‘you’re FREE-don’t ask questions cause your DOM...Let us take care of it for you (my take on the ‘democratic system’ in today’s world)

if we’re truly a free country, we should be voting on issues not parties. Parties are garbage. Unity peeps. Love and unity.

All due respect- and I know we arent supposed to talk politics here- but I’d totally love to sit around a campfire with you and have this discussion over a couple a beers. From where I stand the current admin has gotten away with everything short of bloody murder, with barely a whimper from the media or eastern provinces. Just interesting to me how perspectives can differ so much, I don’t mean any disrespect. Conversation for another time I guess... ;)
