You'll be in for a massive culture shock as far as rules and regulations go. As far as people, it shouldn't be too bad. Canadians aren't as nice as we pretend to be though, and don't apologize as often as they say we do. :D

In a nutshell, I know half a dozen people now who in the last 3 - 5 years have left Canada for the US. Every single one of them says they will never move back to Canada under any circumstances. If I was offered a green card and could swing it with my family, I'd be gone in less than 24 hours.

Tough to answer your questions without getting political. PM me if you want. I grew up near Vancouver, BC and my best friend lives in Victoria.

Victoria is basically a retirement/government worker city. My friend who lives there tells me there is next to zero good paying work there for anyone outside of government or healthcare. There's a university there, but he says that most young people are leaving Victoria in droves to find work elsewhere. The red tape and bureaucracy drives him insane.

BC stands for Bring Cash. High paying jobs aren't common and the cost of living is very high in the province especially in the south-west corner. Young people are struggling and most will never be able to own their own home. My brother and his wife live in my hometown. They're in their mid-20's with a baby due this month. They're moving into my parent's basement suite because even though my bro is a journeyman plumber with gas tickets and they're debt free, they can't afford rent nevermind a mortgage.

The job market nationwide is atrocious, our economy is in the toilet and the cost of living is sky rocketing. This year will have an enormous effect on the nation as we have a federal election and Alberta has a provincial election.

On the bright side though, BC is the most beautiful and diverse province in Canada. Coastal rainforests, alpine meadows, deserts etc. The fishing and hunting is incredible. The outdoor rec oppotunities are endless and the scenery can't be beat.

Down to -14C and dropping here now. Supposed to drop to about -18 here tonight, the first taste of cooler weather we've had here this winter. Block heater is getting used tonight, costs me less than $0.43 to run it 12 hours overnight, less than the fuel and wear'n'tear to idle until the frost is off the glass and my ass.

    Howdy from Alberta!!

It’s -33 with windchill here in Canada right now. Think hard on that... :p ;)

I can’t speak specifically to Victoria or BC... and not to be a bummer, but students here practice emergency scenarios, including active shooter drills.

Sorry man. As twisted as it is, my kids have been doing those types of drills since kindergarten. The world is a messed up place in a lot of ways, and Canada isn’t completely immune.

Got both our Toyotas plugged in now. The noises that my Tundra made when I fired it up earlier made me feel bad. LOL

That used to be my ultimate dream job. Until it sunk in that their busiest time of year, is the time of year I like to take off to go hunting. :)

Technically it’s “Fish and Wildlife Enforcement Officer” but everyone just calls you a warden anyway so I go with that usually haha

It’s the busiest time of the year but it doesn’t interfair with my hunting time either, plus I can choose to be plain clothes whenever I want so if you see someone out hunting like everyone else, it could just be me working ;)

Right on. You guys do a very important job. Thank you! I’m always glad to bump into COs in the backcountry. Ours are assigned huge areas and probably have a hard time covering it all.

As much as I despise most of what our current NDP provincial government has done, one thing they’ve been smart about is putting money into is hiring new Conservation Officers. Way over due and badly needed.

We call you guys ‘Fish Cops’ out here. ;)

My area is huge, there’s 4 officers for it, two are 2 hours away from me and my partner is 63 years old and set to retire. I spend most of my days alone talking to the fish and moose.

Lucky you with your ndp gov. Liberals here have done absolutly nothing to benefit us and are tearing us down as a department. But that’s another rant for another time haha. Also fish cop is a compliment compared to other names. are you rcmp or provincial?

    Ditto for all that here.

I finally ran into a CO here in BC in “the wild” a couple weeks ago while snowmobiling. Was very happy to chat with him, and see him out there. Before that, it must have been 17 years since I’ve encountered one other than seeing the occasional one in town or on the highway. And I spend a fair amount of time outdoors.

Keep up the good fight @TheWarden, many of us appreciate it greatly.

We went from -22 or so to +10 today within 2 days... shits all melting and flooding, good times.
Thankfully I live up on a hill and out street drains were shoveled. Feel bad for some places I'm hearing about.

Man, sounds similar to Alberta. Impossible to cover all that properly.

I’m just a civvy. I was way too stupid as a teenager. Never get hired in LE. Haha. The thin blue line is for friends and a loved one.
