That was Hinton and highway 40 northbound from Hinton. I was driving through the other day at 3pm and it was only 3 degrees haha. Then the rain/flooding was Edson and 32 north.

That said, I hit a snowstorm on the Icefields Parkway south of Jasper in the middle of August a couple years ago.

Here is a link (i did not write it) to avoiding UPS’s insane brokerage fees from the USA and most of Europe (In my case, Germany). I confirmed with the Canadian Customs agents that most of Europe as well as the USA are fair game.
There are agreements between certain countries countries that brokerage is NOT required.
    https://www.reddit.com/r/CanyonBike...earing_customs_in_canada/?utm_name=androidcss

There is a link in the article and it gives the details which is basically that:

1- once u get the tracking number, call ups and clearly state you are “self clearing” item at customs. Ask for the appropriate paper work to be emailed to you, which may take several phone calls as people struggle with follow through.

2- 24 hours or so after the item lands in Canada you will receive the paper work and instructions from UPS (again, you may have to follow up if not received) to be completed and brought with you to where ever the customs place is (TBD)

3- once you receive the paper work, take it to customs (usually near the airport), pay the GST, and your paperwork will be stamped. You then email copies to the shipping company (UPS) in this case, the item will be released and shipped to your house.

In my case, i am importing a bicycle, made (assembled) in Germany. UPS wants $650+ dollars for the 13% brokerage fees, plus 5% gst when in reality you only need to pay sales tax (5%).

    I have received my bike.
UPS wanted $1050 in brokerage fees and tax, I ended up paying $243 for the 5% gst.
The morons left a $5k+ bike on my door step with no one home and I live in the hood, excellent work UPS.
Customs agent aslo said to avoid DHL shipping at all cost.

so I went to customs today to self clear my bike. I did confirm, you can self clear anything from the USA and most of Europe (trade agreements) so DO NOT pay brokerage fees, a bit of your time can save you $$$.
I am still updating the original instructions as I go.

The bike is in my posession and no brokerage fees were paid.
I have updated the original post with all the steps I went through so hopefully people here can save themselves some $$ and stick it to companies who profit by keeping information hidden.
Share it with everyone you know.

That’s pretty cool, didn’t even know we could do that. Crazy how much UPS wanted.

Nice we do the same. But I do want to get another solar panel to put on the ground to move around. I have one on the roof of the trailer.

Just finished 5hr drive to SK, I just stoped in Swift for a slurpy :D not bad eh, and still got little over a 1/4 tank. I believe she still had an hr drive before I had to fuel up. That’s with bumper, winch & 34” tires.

just did 2000ish km to whistler and back with our 1100lb trailer , average was 18l/100km and I am aok with that. Keeping it around 100km/hour is the key.
