What did you hear about Toyota on the Trail?
They post some half decent prices at times. I talked to salesman by phone there once and he wasn't even friendly.

I can't remember now but I thought it was someone on here who didn't like them. @belanger9 maybe?

Not a fan of them, but only dealt with them once for a quick test drive, so not to the point of not liking them yet. Not sure who it was that singled them out.

Me personally my preference will be Northwest Toyota to go to first. Went for a test drive on a Highlander for the wife and they talked through the options, gave us reasonable dates, not pushy when we indicated we were far apart on making numbers work, and have a lot of selection.

Gateway Toyota was good to me also, but I live in Fort Sask now so even Gateway is a decent drive to get to. I bought from Mayfield (now WEM Toyota) because they had a TRD OR not in white at a reasonable price - wasn't that pleased with the buying experience, and servicing has been so so, but I wouldn't turn people away either if they can get you the best deal.

Sherwood Park Toyota I'd rather not deal with them, not because of the Toyota dealership, but the Hyundai one. Didn't like the buying experience for my wife's Tucson, and we had to chase them for a couple of the sales conditions (one was as simple as a full tank of gas) and they kept hounding about service even after we said we would not deal with them unless we had warranty work needing to be done.

I got mine from Toyota on the trail, they were easy to work with as far as I was concerned. Emailed them to tell them what I want and what I'd pay. We went back and forth a bit until we found something that worked. I drove from sask with a trade in and was in and out in about an hr. Only issue was they were a little liberal with undercoating so there was/is some over spray in some spots

Test drove a 4runner at Sherwood Toyota that smelled strongly like smoke still. Very wierd. Bought from the old Gateway and was average. Bought from northwest only because they had the color, year, decent price. Sales was ok, finance was sleazy, return experience for negotiated add on was crappy. They assured me they would have a vehicle available so I could run around and do my business. When I got there, no vehicle, got a courtesy ride only so didn't get my business done.

Starting to become very hard to find a good dealer in the Edmonton area. Will be interesting to see if there's any good one still, I'm thinking this week I'll go test drive a 3rd gen and see if they're willing to negotiate a bit. I'm only seeing 4.99% financing so they'll have to cut down the price (or up trade in value) to compensate. Feel like they've got enough stock; NW lists 16 and SP has 16 as well; to finally wiggle a little.

Yeah 5% for new is no fun. I have 4.25% variable used from a bank. I was thinking of comparing other banks. I'm sure all the dealerships would take you to the cleaners if given the chance.

Toyota is weird, they don't seem to give an option to get a quote from a bank on a new vehicle. On my wife's Ram her financing for 96 months is through RBC. Hey if they want to give me 4.99%, then give me $5k off on the roughly $40k I would be financing after my anticipated trade value and new price. Pretty sure they won't budge so I think it'll be a quick talk with the sales person and their manager and I'll still have my '16

Any Canadians put on catalytic converter protection on their Tundra? I need to start parking downtown again and simply put the truck is an easy target.

If so, what did you use and what price range did it come in at? I would love to go with the Valhalla shields in but full coverage sure is pricey, especially in aluminum.

What's the driver for using aluminum? Weight?

It does (with a deductible), however cats for Tundras have a very lengthy backorder. Some Canadians have been waiting since November and still don't have an OEM quality replacement.

    Yes, it's weight and payload.

I'm not using this truck in the same way off-road as my Tacoma was so a 1/4" aluminum is more than sufficient for me.

I was trying to think if aluminum is easier to cut through than steel but I guess the goal is just to get them to go look at the next truck that has nothing.

If someone crawls under a truck looking to steal a cat but it's covered, they are simply going to move to an easier target. Cutting off the bolt heads (if not recessed) could be quick, but most thieves will just skip it. They want to get in and out fast if it's in a downtown parking lot.

Plus aluminium plate will take all the trail bashing I would put this trail whale through.

I was mostly thinking cost. I don't currently take my truck anywhere I haven't taken my cars (though I have bashed the underside of my car a couple times and had to take a good run at a muddy hill after sliding down it backwards :anonymous:).

Has anyone found any banks or credit unions that are particularly good for used auto loans?

All depends on your credit rating.

With that said, over the past 20 years or so I have only financed a few vehicles. I had identical experiences with TD, Scotia and CIBC. The dealer found a rate that beat my bank, made sure the loan could be paid off early without a penalty and then paid it off early.

In Alberta, some people are saying good things about Connect First, but no personal experience.

Every time I've talked to a bank or credit union about vehicle loans, they tell me not to bother because the dealership will beat them. With Toyota wanting 4.99% despite about a nearly 40% down payment, a solid income and high credit, I'm thinking of shopping around again.

I've heard credit unions tend to be better than banks but that's the extent of my knowledge. I financed my first car through the dealer, which was through Scotiabank. Bought the last 2 with cash.

I got used financing at the Dealership (Scotia), then a credit union beat it by 3% later on. I think the Dealership had some kind of scam going with Scotia though.

When I get closer to delivery date if Toyota hasn't come out with any incentives, I'll be calling some banks.

Some of the credit unions have really good in person service if you value that.

That's what I've heard. I bank mainly with Tangerine now though since there's no fees. I'm a pretty low maintenance bank client. I haven't needed to set foot in a brick and mortar bank since I bought my Tundra a few years ago. I've been looking at ATB but their offerings aren't quite as good as what I have now.

it doesn’t matter if they sell zero, or 1 million new cars. They “don’t make any money on new cars”. 0% of 0 = 0. 0% of 1 million trillion = 0.

makes me wonder how 6 dealers in Winnipeg are able to do multi million dollar Reno’s to their buildings if they don’t make money?? Service? Used, cars? Mercy? Lol
