There was a video somewhere, an Ontario guy all about faraday bags & how effective they are - after having his new Taco stolen this way.
I just can’t recall where I saw it

Why not just disable the proximity key?

Hold down the lock button and press unlock twice. It disables the proximity key. To turn it back on, press any button on the remote.

I recall hearing that trick too. That or use a faraday bag. But clearly the remote trick will be cheaper, if you remember to do it :)

I wonder how the dealerships are staying afloat? Are they getting help from Toyota? They don't have much inventory to move and I would think they need to move a lot of units.

    Slow doesn’t equal lower profits.

2021 was a stellar year for many dealerships in Canada. Some reported record high profits (like Autocan). Profits have increased to compensate for reduced inventory and days on lot before sale is at an all time low. Plus there was a lot of price negotiation in the supply chain to reduce costs.

JD Power in the USA is predicting 2022 could be one of the most profitable years ever as there is a massive build up of demand that will strike this summer (Covid willing).

Yeah I guess the ones that can get or had vehicles are doing well. It will be interesting if higher interest rates coming soon will cool down the prices a bit.

Late reply here; Those prices you are seeing sound insane! I ordered a GD 2400BH in September for $45k CAD. You may want to look out of province and take a road trip at time of delivery. I bought from Lazee Acres in Ontario.

New RV markups were generally high before the pandemic. I think prices are going to improve if consumers push back on used RVs and vehicles.

Ordered a TRD RSB for my truck from my dealership. $380 with my 10% discount. Coming in from Vancouver and should be here in a couple days.

Rsb is awesome when the truck is loaded up and you are driving on twisty roads, and it looks sweet ;)

I keep seeing the same Tundras being reposted on Kijiji and not moving. Also the number of units for sale is slowly going up.

Are they private or dealer sales? I don't watch it a lot, but I have seen a few dealers who have posted trucks on Kijiji that "oh, that just sold". The Kijiji ad is up but it's sold on the website.

They are mostly dealers and some private. I do see the odd one move if the price is good.

What's wierd too is it will say "great price" for a truck on Autotrader and will say 4k over market on car gurus for the same unit.

High River Toyota for a fair deal and reliable service. I have purchased a few vehicles there and any service that needs to be done by a dealer is done there. I like the low pressure, smaller town environment.

Cochrane Toyota for an ok deal but people who are more Toyota truck enthusiasts. They will do up a few Tundras a year with tasteful mods. @IsaiahCanada bought his Tundra there and I am sure has feedback on the experience.

If you're in the capital region, I've been happy with Gateway Toyota. Give Sherwood Park Toyota and the Go Auto one (Toyota on the Trail?) a pass.

Agreed, I had a great experience buying from Cochrane Toyota.

What's with those two? I've bought from Toyota Northwest but only because I had the best deal there. They seemed only about the sale, got out of there as quick as I could.

I didn't deal with their sales department too much but SP Toyota's service department kept trying to rip us off until I decided we're not going there any more. They also got my wife with the nitrogen in the tires on her Corolla.

I've only been to Toyota on the Trail once with my brother to test drive a 4R but I've heard bad stuff from others. I also stay away from Go Auto on principle.

They're very high pressure and they'll openly lie to your face before stabbing you in the back later. I made the mistake of dealing with Kentwood Ford in Edmonton when I bought my F150. It was a total nightmare. I hope it was worth it to them. At last count they've lost sales for 2 fleet sales totaling nearly 20 F150s as well as personal sales of a combined 6 F350s, 4 F150s, 6 Explorers and 2 of the new Rangers just from me turning people to other dealers or brands. Piss me off, lie to me, treat The Woman like garbage and I'll go out of my way to ensure your business suffers.

Fuck Go Auto. Fuck Kentwood Ford. Fuck Ford.

In addition to what Aaron said, they also add things on that aren't negotiable. I got suckered into it on my first new car because I was too young and stupid to know better so that car has the "etch" anti theft thing that insurance companies don't actually recognize and give you a discount for and PPF in front of the rear wheels of all places (nowhere else). They also wouldn't even throw in the $10 iPod cable on a $25k car.

My FIL bought at Freedom Ford. I'm pretty sure the only thing he cares about is price but I think they're good enough to keep him going back for service.

If you're buying a GM, do NOT go to Jack Carter in Calgary.

I sense you are a bit upset by this. Nothing worse than lies and deception. I expect a dealership to make money but many are greedy and underhanded about it.

I'm a little bit salty, yeah. I held back in that post too. :D

It's way too long a story to get into without whiskey and a campfire but I involved both Ford and Go Auto corporate offices during the course of our fiasco. Their tacit support for how Kentwood Ford and 2 other independent Ford dealers handled things is the reason there will never be a Ford in our family again and nobody I know will ever buy from a Go Auto dealer again.

What did you hear about Toyota on the Trail?
They post some half decent prices at times. I talked to salesman by phone there once and he wasn't even friendly.
