I've never user or tried real tow mirrors, so maybe I don't know what I'm missing. I have used the clip on extensions when we had our Sienna.

Now that we have the truck, I never use them and don't have any visibility issues. We tow a 17' trailer. I just make sure not to take any risks or chances, it may mean waiting or slowing down to switch lanes before I'm 100% sure.

From my vehicle training with multiple organizations, I know for a fact, most civilian drivers have their mirrors pulled in too tight. They should NOT be showing the side of your car or truck, they should be out from there (see video).

I'm not saying that is going to eliminate the need for tow mirrors, but I'm always amazed and how far inward peoples mirrors are if I sit in their driver seat (same height drivers).

Like you said, for open trailers, I rarely felt the need for it even at like almost 30', enclosed trailers, may be because it helps with the blind spot behind the trailer, I like those GM/Ford mirrors that is electrically adjustable, they are nice, but Ram is more practical.

Opinion: I have OEM tow mirrors but pulled them off. They are excellent for long/wide trailers but, in my opinion, terrible for regular city driving. No matter how I adjusted them I couldn’t reach a view that is as good as the standard mirror.

Clip on mirrors are uncool, but they have been more than enough for my current travel trailer. Plus I don’t have to deal with the elephant ears smacking on trees on the trail.

i agree 100%. I found the toyota tow mirrors kinda dangerous for daily use. there was like a huge blind spot from the mirror back that was the perfect size for a small car to hide in. And my other unpopular opinion is that they look stupid, they must decrease your L/100 and hang like 1’ onto the sidewalk when parked on the street.

Motorcycle riders and cyclists disappear with the OEM tow mirrors.

Not sure what you guys mean but I have no problem seeing what’s around me with the two mirrors, no complaints here. Or maybe I’m missing something :notsure:

I'm not too sure either, and my GM ones are much bigger than the Toyota ones. Guess I'm just used to tow mirrors whether it's GM or Ford style. Of course if you don't move your head they can hide someone, but when I'm stopped at intersections I move my head a few inches and I can see around the mirrors no problem.

Anyone install 3m clear on the roof line after a few years of road abuse? Wondering if the little chips will rust underneath the film. Should have done it years ago, but never too late i suppose.
Seems like any vehicle in Alberta reaching the 10yr mark has pretty hurtin paint where winshield meets roof.

It's not the type you try 'just to see'. Pretty sure all of us who have gotten them either have used Ford or GM tow mirrors quite a bit with other vehicles or tow quite frequently. So either we're already used to the size (and the extra visibility backwards that comes with that) or have a need with trailer visibility to deal with the extra size.

I bought my truck used and the previous owner got rid of the power fold/puddle light mirrors for the tow mirrors. I hated them so much but managaed to trade them straight up for a nice set of powerfold mirrors, so I came full circle.

Haven't had a vehicle with tow mirrors before or towed much to date but my wife was really impressed with the mirrors on the 2018 max tow Sierra we test drove before buying the Tundra.

I'm going to have 4-5 recalls for the dealer to look at when I bring it in.

I haven't been in to the dealer in a while, I've been going to my local garage for service. Going to the dealer is an all day affair and nothing seemed pressing for the latest recalls.

Based on VIN, looks like I have the Headlights (I am using LED bulbs, that should be fun to explain or justify to them) and Fuel Pump.

I'm planning on bringing it to dealer in March (when I'll be off work for a week) to get both looked at.

Are RVs really that much more expensive here or are the guys at Woody's RV World a bunch of greedy liars?

We're looking at buying a Grand Design Imagine 2400BH. According to the Grand Design website, MSRP is about $50k USD. By my math, that should be roughly somewhere around $60k CAD, give or take a few thousand. According to Woody's website, the ones they have all have an MSRP of $77k and have been marked down by $18k to $59k. Does it really cost $17k to get an RV across the border or are they just trying to pretend to give folks a deal while selling at MSRP?

@Mattedfred any chance you've looked into this?

ETA: according to the GD website, Woody's is they're only dealer around here. That's based on my postal code and I'm not sure how far away it looks.

Any chance that this sale price sticker is there year round and you're always going to pay that roughly 60k you calculated?

What recalls have there been on the 2018? I purchased one used and won't get recalls. I know I have a dealer installed block heater. Wish there would be a system so the second owners get recall notifications too.

Yes, they are greedy but prices have gone up too. MSRP is a joke for RV's in Canada. It's a completely made up number from what I have seen and only completely clueless people will pay it.

Prior to the pandemic, we were planning to buy a Vibe 24db. We didn't because we did didn't like the all white interior (can't do that with a kid). At that time, we could purchase it for $41k. We were told on Saturday if we want one now the MSRP was $67k. My sense the negotiated pre-tax price would be high $50's. Best part is the "no idea when it will arrive" position - it's a combination of the manufacturers not communicating because they are so busy and salespeople who are selling 4-5 units a week each because of the demand.

With that said, we have done really well by purchasing in Saskatchewan. Our last trailer we drove to Wayburn and saved $5k. Check out Minards RV World and let the salesperson know you are from Alberta and want a "hitch up and go price". Totally worth the drive - plus you will have life long memories of the Super8 in Moose Jaw.

Last year SOOOOO many people turned to travel trailers for their summer trip since flying was such a pain in the butt - so dealers sold huge amounts and could charge almost whatever they wanted. Those prices seem to have carried over based on what you're saying. In a couple years the used market for trailers is going to be so flooded I bet they'll be deals for sure. Doesn't help your situation today but something to think about - maybe get something cheaper now that is good enough, then in a couple years pick up something better for cheaper
