Except the brief period where you’re boiled in bugs. Then freezing again.

I don't know if it's global warming or covid,.but we have been really lucky with mosquitos the last few years. Hardly any.

    Plus 2 this week.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves, you still have a good 5 months of winter ahead of you. It isn't a real winter until Manitoba has week or two of -40C temperatures.

Don't worry, Alberta gets those too. Though I wouldn't complain if we got them early enough in the winter to kill off the mountain pine beetles.

I washed my truck yesterday because I haven't been driving it. Finally got the mud off that my wife put on it in August.

Will probably wash the wife's car on Thursday night because it's supposed to drop below 0 that night and stay there for a bit.

You know what I really hate about most, if not all, US vendors who ship to Canada?

Free Shipping in USA and $20 shipping to Canada.

They still have to pay the courier to ship the item in the USA.

Why not offer a discount on shipping to Canada for the average amount it costs them to ship within the USA? o_O

I don't get it and it often prevents me from even wanting to deal with them.

Example. Free shipping in USA and $19usd to ship to Canada:

Still usually cheaper than buying from almost anywhere in Canada and shipping with Canada Post. More than half of my online shopping is from the US now. Even after exchange and shipping, it's cheaper than buying in Canada. Hell, the bbq thermometer I just got I ordered from Amazon.com instead of .ca. It was 50% cheaper when the dust settled...

"Welcome to Canada, bend over and take it dry eh!"

    That’s a serious thermometer.

I got one of those fancy MEATER thermometers last year. Love it. I like my steaks more rare and I’m able to hit if perfect almost every time.

It's the new CBSA updates, I had Amazon prime based out of a NY address before amazon Canada was a thing, so my account got more or less grandfathered in and for a while some items would still be free shipping to Ontario, but the new CBSA rules changed and now suddenly everything to Canada address there's additional fee to deal with CBSA paperwork, I don't know exactly the details but that's what couple vendors told me when I reached out to them asking how come now it costs additional $10 to ship to Canada when it was free for the same items.

I'm almost tempted to take my trailer and cross the border to buy household items at Aldi or cash&carry consider how much things have gone up by here.

On a side note, I've seen at least 10 new 2022/23 Pros running around my area for journalists, I gotta say, it looks kinda good, saw a lunar rock trd pro and wanted to take a side by side photo but got asked not to for now, there's some temptation for sure, but then I remember I have a supercharger that's waiting for installation.

Snowing like a bugger here. The temperature is supposed to fall off a cliff starting tomrrow. It's -5 today, looks like we'll be at -35 by Christmas. Oh well. More ice on the lake, more better! Anyone else enjoying the hard water season?

The cold is coming, looking like highs of -26 next week even here in Calgary.
My furnace shit the bed a month ago, I replaced the board and its good to go but I sure am glad it happened early in the heating season. Things get really exciting with no heat in the dead of winter.

Thermocouple went bad on my furnace during a cold snap last year. I was able to clean it with an emery cloth to get it sensing again but I bought a backup just in case.

My neighbour has one. He burns wood all winter.

I don't know what's involved or they cost, but I'd love to get one too.

Here in AB, you need to have the stove WETT inspected for insurance purposes which usually means you want it professionally installed. Total cost for the stove and install is between $3000 and $5000 when I last looked and depending on what type of install you do.

I put one in a few years ago and really like it. When it's minus -30 in a few days it's kind of nice to give the furnace a break. Have to be careful the basement doesn't get too cold. My fireplace is more for looks in the living room, always liked a real fireplace that burns real wood. Still it'll heat my little place upstairs pretty easily when it's up to temp. Saying that firewood prices in Calgary are at a stupid level............so much spruce here, low creosote but such shit burning wood, a cord of birch will run you close to $1000 bucks delivered now.

Having no heat for 1.5 days really made me think about what I would do if it had gone on longer. A wood stove could save yer bacon.

having a back up hot surface ignitor is always good to have on hand as well. They also can be cleaned in a pinch.

$1000 a cord? I'm in the wrong business.

Since it wouldn't be my primary heat source, I'd just go cut my own. I do it on a small scale for our backyard fire pit and camping. Wouldn't take much to ramp up to a couple cords a year.
