First snowfall of the year and I was the first house to shovel.

    I’m proud of myself.

    Canadians will understand.

    That is all.

8* here today. I may try and get one last day of shore fishing in. Went for a morning 5-6k trail run with the dog, it's a gorgeous fall day.

We should have some snow next week as temps drop.

I'm hoping to get most of my leaves raked up before it snows. That's about the last thing I need to do to get the house and yard ready for winter, other than putting winter tires on the vehicles.

Winter tires for my wife’s SUV is this afternoon. Tundra just keeps BFG AT boots for now.

Me too, problem is that the trees around our yard are Swedish columnar aspens. They drop their leaves really late. They only just started shedding in the last few days.

One of our trees still had its leaves this past March.

I mow all leaves back into the ground. Quite bagging them a few years ago.

All the nutrients go back into the ground for the birds & bees.

I'll have to do that next year. Too bad I already put up the mower for winter.

I honestly thought about using the mulch setting for one last pass after the majority of the leaves are on the ground.

Once you start mulching the leaves, you'll never go back to bagging.
This year I raked the leaves from my driveway to the lawn and than mowed them.

All the neighbours have 10-15 bags for pickup every couple weeks, I have none. I'm not an anti-bagger, but I won't do it any more. I even take the excess ones (if they bunch up along fence and in corners) and lay them in my gardens for winter.

I've read numerous stories and interviews on how good the leaves are for the lawn and critters to survive the winter. Ideally, you much the first wave of leaves and leave the second wave (light layer) on your lawn if it's close to snowfall. It acts as a barrier/blanket and food source for winter bugs/rodents, which then keeps them alive for the birds, bats and squirrels etc to eat.

It's easier and cheaper than bagging too. Win win.

Sounds like some hippie dippy treehugger greenie bullshit. But it's also low effort, so I'm in. Gonna try that next year.

So far my wife likes raking the leaves, when her attitude changes, I will join the mulching club

We have an organics bin so I just hand bomb then in there after raking. I'm not paying for bags that someone's just going to haul away.

I actually don't mind raking leaves. I did it today. The temperature was a cool 4 degrees, the sky was clear blue and the sun was shining. I put on a podcast and just enjoyed being outside doing manual labor. It's good for the soul I think.

I actually started doing it for the laziness and cheapness aspect.. If it helps the lawn and environment, even better.

The hippy dippy comes from at least two news stories I've heard on the radio in the last week about the benefits. Hot topic with fall I guess.

They will. Just seem to be getting unfortunate with duty charges lately and wanted to see if I could stay in country first. Doesn’t seem like I have any other options.

I haven't had things disappear, it's more of a price thing. I have this allergic reaction to paying $15 USD shipping on a $30 USD part. Then take the risk that I suddenly get slapped more duties on top of it which seems to happen often.

    Hee hee. I said dooties.
