    Thank you Sir.

It’s a lot of work- we still have a few days of butchering & processing ahead, plus camp gear cleanup- but it’s awesome and I’m very grateful.

Do you process the meat yourself?

You bet. Usually. Once in awhile we take a whole deer to our favorite butcher, for some of his jerky and sausage, but moose and elk we always butcher ourselves.

I like being part of every step, from the field to the table.

What do you use for a meat grinder? We're thinking of buying a LEM grinder, slicer and dehydrator over the next year or so.

We are grinding 80-100 pounds with a LEM tomorrow. They make good grinders.

Nice, I've heard a fair bit of good about LEM. The Cabela's branded grinder used to get good reviews but it seems to have slipped in quality over the last couple years. LEM seems to be the most "commercial" grade, built to last grinder on the market right now.

We ended up grinding 130 pounds with my buddy’s 10ish year old .35 HP LEM. Worked great.

I’d like one of their 1.5 hp models. Or who ever builds a commercial grade unit, in Canada or the USA.

Sweet. I'd love a 1.5HP but they're big bucks. We're looking at the .5hp model. We want a meat slicer too, we've grown tired of paying deli prices for ham etc.

Yeah. A .5 model would grind a pile of meat, without any problem. And the LEMs do seem to last. His little .35 gets pretty hot grinding as much as we do, but it keeps on trucking, year after year.

I’ve thought about a meat slicer, but not sure the clean up time is worth it. It would be awesome to slice your own hams and roasts though. Probably would be a good buy too.

Yeah, the clean up on a slicer is iffy. The LEM looks like it comes apart in just a couple minutes, but you still wouldn't want to just use it casually to make a single sammich. Maybe once every couple weeks buy a big ham and slice it up.

Happy thanksgiving! Did a quick and easy dinner for me and The Woman last night. Baked ham, grilled potato salad, caesar salad, cornbread and apple pie.

Well most free ish, we are still limited to one vaccinated family allowed in our home. But the idea of being grateful is timeless. We have so much to be grateful for.

I often fill up at Curve Lakes reserve, few days ago it was 1.19 , they had to put a cap on maximum 200L per person.

Is there a class to teach you how to field dress animals? been thinking get my hunting license but I've never field dress anything before.

It takes guts to field dress a deer.

Ideally a person has family or friends who’re willing to mentor them as a new hunter. If not, I’d recommend reaching out to your local Fish & Game Association or club. Pretty sure they’d be happy to put you in touch with an experienced hunter or point you toward classes, etc.

    Go for it! Good luck!

No idea. I'm in FSJ for work, no snow here. :D

It started with flurries on my way up this afternoon. I'm ready though, got a shiny new Honda snowblower all set to go.

Nice response from corp but disappointing behaviour from the store. All depends on the ppl, and all too often the ppl miss the mark. Having said that, I've gotten 3 x sets of Nokian Hakkapeliitta's from Kal Tire in Leduc, AB over the years and had no issues every time. Not a guarantee of future performance but goes to show the ppl at the store make or break the experience. Makes a guy really appreciate the good, service orientated, honest, hard working folks out there when you get them.
