Can the springs on my coil overs change ride height?

My friend and I changed my front coil overs this past weekend and now it looks like my truck is nose diving. My truck has a 4 inch pro Comp lift with the stock coil overs and it used to sit perfectly level. We changed the whole front component (spring and shock). But now that we changed it out I’m rubbing in different spots and not sitting level. Is it possible that the spring was an oversized aftermarket part? I'm also noticed that when I turn right at slow speeds (5-10mph) there is a moan/high pitched drone sound coming from my front driver side wheel well. I have looked everywhere and the closest thing I've found was on a tacoma forum about the brake shield rubbing just a bit, anyone have a possible culprit?

Springs have a huge impact on ride height. If a crewmax, some coil overs will not give advertised lift. Sometimes you need to keep the heavier stock spring. There is a whole bunch of stuff to consider and research.

You may have taken out spacers when you changed your coilovers. Sounds like it. Have pics of it b4 and after???

Ok them I'm almost certain those springs are the issue then. The shocks we put in were duralast OEM spec'd so hopefully we can swap out the springs and it will fix the issue.

can't be the spacer, we did that on the first install and I couldn't even turn my wheels without sounding like the truck was going to fall off the frame lol. Next day we ripped it apart and put the coil spacers back on and it definitely helped. Let me run out and snap a pic of the after. Best pic I have of before is in my profile picture.

Like previously stated I think you have left spacers on old assemblies.

Sounds to me like you should be seeking someone who is a little more experienced to work on it. The front end of the truck being worked on by inexperienced people could get someone hurt or killed.

Both spacers are in place, only thing that doesn't look right to me is that this spring seems a little less beefy than the one that is pictures

This is before we changed out the front coil-overs

And this is after, I tried to take them at the same angle.

So the spring in the pic above is the new coilover? Where did the spacer on top of it come from? I can't tell a difference in ride height in your before/after pics. Looks like very similar front height to me.

Probably weak springs causes nosedive when braking and over bumps dips etc.

Yes, I bought the new coilover as a complete piece. Then we got a spring compressor from auto zone so that we could get the spacer off of the coilover that was previously installed on the truck and put it on the new coilover. Where I think we messed up is not reusing the spring. So essentially we should have only replaced the shock.

Man that suspension is a nightmare with two big spacers in there. I would change the entire lift if it was my truck.

You should have coilovers that fit with your desired lift, not just swap shocks.

I've been contemplating crying once and fixing this nightmare that I got into. I have definitely learned my lesson of buying a truck with the lift already installed from the dealership. I think with my lift they cut my crossmember and everyone I've talked to has said it's going to be a nightmare and a bank breaker to switch around.

Just be careful with the spring compressor, very, very dangerous. Best to have a shop swap any springs.

you're making me feel bad lol. I now know that I messed up when purchasing this truck. Next one will definitely be a proper lift from BDS.

yeah that question is too generic to answer accurately. holy hell, i didn't notice at first that you have TWO spacers on there. i can't even imagine the ride quality of that truck, and i'm sure it's not safe, either.

One thing to consider is if you want to keep that 4" of lift up front is you should really replace your stock upper control arms. 3" lift is generally the max you can go without swapping those. It'll throw off your alignment and probably hit the coil spring in droop situations.

Yes, several aftermarket spindles are available and change the geometry in various ways. But, I do like my adjustable UCAs, no doubt.

Just one problem, shortages and high prices right now. Maybe sell and ride the bus or carpool until things settle down and chips are available.

Seems to me like you could look at your truck and a stock truck side by side and determine what is different, then decide. Might also find your desired distance from upper to lower shock mount and look for coilovers that will fit. Beware of all the other things that may out of whack, front differential, sway bar, bump stops, brake line locations front and back, carrier bearing, maybe rear shock extenders, shackles, etc. Lots of things to get right when lifting.

On top of that you may want to consider rear traction bars to control your axle wrap. Personally I have the BDS version.
