Can I put a junkyard ECU in my truck?

Have a 2008. Dealer told me my ABS pump module shorted out and fried my ECU. They want $1500 to put a new ECU in. Can I just grab one out of a junkyard that’s the same model number and swap it or are they VIN specific? I’ve also looked into flagship one but am reading very mixed reviews. Any help is appreciated

As I recall it should be the same year and ECU model, and then you'll have to reset the VIN with teachstream.
