I only want it for the apps and navigation. Don’t really care about sound upgrade. Just wondering if I can change them out

Not a JBL, but if you get a non JBL Entune plus that has apps and Nav it is a plug and play swap. You do not need to add anything but you will need the VIN# from a truck that came from the factory with Nav to sign up for the app on your phone for the apps to work. The Nav will work without it.

Question - i have thought about doing this "in the past" not so sure I will.

How would one go about getting the VIN from another vehicle that came factory with the nav and the apps, so it all works like its supposed to?
    Seems really hard to do...

I did this swap. My original was Entune without NAVI and bought a headunit with Navi (Map Card) button, plug and play - everything works. I didnt need the VIN number of the truck that it came from.

Did you swap the Sirius XM radio box?

The Sat radio box has its own ESN and it does not matter who activates it so just make sure that you install a Sat box too and you will be able to run it without trouble aside from calling Sirius to get it going maybe.

I swapped the base radio in my 2015 for the non JBL XM radio and had no trouble getting it all going but I did need a second GPS antenna for the Apps seperate from the Radio Antenna for Sat,it evidently sets the clock that way which seem idiotic to me?

But if there are already 2 antenna connections in your dash you are probably ready to go.

No, I swapped everything that came with the replacement unit. My Original Headunit / XM box is just sitting in the garage.

I got it from the guy I bought the head unit from. Other than that, Google and try to find one listed for a wrecked truck like from auction sites.

The Nav works without a VIN, it's only needed to register the Entune app on your phone to get full use of the apps on the HU, which are not all that anyways.

I sold my stock head unit to a guy on eBay and he said it was all plug and play on his end - like @Azblue mentioned, he just needed my VIN to register his Entune phone app and get that end of it working.
