Just finished following your recipe and the results are awesome. My 1794 has different handles which are only partly chrome so I ahd some spend some time carefully masking the rest of the handle, but in the end the results are pretty great:

Awesome job. I did mine myself as well, be sure to use 2k clear though. It hardens

How long did each handle take? How long did you let it cure?

for me, it took a few hours as I did 5 coats of color and 3 coats of clear. 24 hours to dry and harden.

I did this back in 2014 on my tundra. I used paint from Automotive touch up. I did it in black handles. I also did adhesive promoter, primer, base then clear. It came out just like OEM. I am about to do it to my 2020.

    Alot of them
Painting handles that were already factory painted works best. Painting the textured black handles usually doesn't turn out as good.

I did it to my last tundra, 2015, sold the truck but put the door handles on my dads truck. I looked at them the other day and they were as good as the day I painted them. I used paint from Automotive Touchup.

I did black door handles and I think the trick was to do adhesive promoter, primer, base then clear. I sanded then pretty good to get a almost flat finish. Apply the adhesive promoter and then primer in a few coats. The primer acts as a filler and then you sand the primer to get a flat surface. Base coat and clear, done. They are a little more labor intensive because you have to sand them flat but come out smooth. On my 2020 I am debating to buy chrome ones or just do mines. My last truck I bought spares so I had plenty of time. If I just paint the ones on my truck I am sure I can do it in a day but the truck can’t be used and would have to finish the same day.

Anyone else with the chrome handles they painted chime in on how it's holding up? I'm considering doing this to mine but don't want to buy new handles to do it

I was checking and it’s not that much more to buy them done. Also I believe the sequoia ones fit. I will probably go that route to save the hassle of all the work and time.

I did this over my chrome handles. I didn't sand it but did let the paint rest as directed by the instructions on the dupli color can. Don't remember how many coats I did but it was probably like 2 adhesion promoter, 3 or 4 color coat, then 2 clear coat. I have a tiny chip in one of them. One side of the car, I kind of rushed and didn't prepare a good spot to spray it and there is imperfections but it seems to still hold up pretty good. Doesn't bother me too much as I rather spend the $20 or $30 in paint than the hundreds of dollars in a new set of door handles and end up with a useless set of chrome handles.

Does this work with textured black handles?

Yes it does. The black door handles require a little more work to smooth out the texture on them. For some reason my truck (Attitude Black) the handles are about $25-30 more than I would spent on the paint. Other colors are not so cheap. You could look into sequoia handles. For 2 handles and the end caps its like $80 shipped.

No. They weren’t very expensive to buy painted from Toyota.

Anyone painted there with the Duplicolor white? Seeing lots of reviews that it's not really 040 Super White.

It matched my super white tundra perfectly. I’ll send a picture when I get home. Just did the door handles.
