I'm jealous of these set ups! I have to deal with a truckbed tent because I need the use of my bed far too much to have something fairly permanent. That being said, it's nice to look at these set ups and drool! Not quite camping season just yet, but it's just around the corner!

Had a few incredible days of camping in Death Valley last month, only to return home to Snowpocalypse 2023. Low range has definitely been getting a workout this year so far

Gonna complain to both of you if it's not what I'm expecting. :D

Lol you’ll enjoy it. I’m actually ordering another soon. The T4 hub plus with the extra room. We’ll see if it fits in the bed with all the shit in there already. I can squeeze the t4 between the shock bedcage now

Did our 4th snow camp of the season the past weekend.
we sometimes hate on Banff because it is so touristy and close to home, but are usually quickly reminded why it is so popular.
Rode a day at Sunshine and got dragged up the tunnel mountain hike.

Those with camping / overland experience, what are your thoughts on this setup? Too little space?

Ive had Seasucker items on my previous vehicles and the suction cups are hit or miss depending on the surface its mounted on.

Cool idea, would be a bit concerned if it were to loose suction out of nowhere and there goes dinner for the night lol.

The wife and I are taking a trip out to the Mesa Verde, Bryce, Zion National park and Canyon lands next month. I’m looking for recommendations for good places to camp with showers/restrooms and also some good backcountry over landing type camping around these areas. I’m not looking for any kind of technical or difficult offroading. Just some easy trail riding that would get us off the beaten path for some truck camping. Any recommendations or information that would give me some ideas would be appreciated.

Man, you're going to be heading right thru my favorite area to go putzing around. All these places are right on your way from Mesa Verde over to Bryce, Zion, and all are easy areas to get into and out of, especially VOG.

Needles Overlook area, which overlooks Canyonlands.

More VOG and Beef Basin area which is south of Canyonlands.

Ran up to Moab a couple weekends ago to see a friend and help with a Tread Lightly project during EJS. Stopped just south of La Sal and stayed at a dispersed spot I found on Ioverlander.

Now I'm getting last minute prep for a road trip from Phoenix to Oregon in May. Stopping at Marble Canyon, Bryce Canyon NP, Bonneville Salt Flats, Alvord Desert (weather depending), and Crane Hotsprings; amongst a few other stops. We'll leave the RTT here and take the offroad teardrop on that one.

Awesome. Thanks for the information. What’s the camping situation like on those trail? Is it allowed? I’ve been all over the west fighting wildfire but this will be my first time driving out there for fun. It’s a long way to drive from south Alabama so I’ve got to at least do some off roading when I do get there.

For the most part it's all public land out there, so dispersed camping EVERYWHERE. Just find a place you like and camp away.

Around Canyonlands we like to find the high places along the edge of the park that have a great view into the park. Just poke around on Google Maps or Google Earth and you'll see all kinds of trails outside the park looking in.

Example: Here's an area that has dozens of spots along the edge that will give you a great view. Zoom in using Google Maps Satellite view and you'll see all kinds of spots.
    Needles Area.jpg

When you're out the you'll be looking for trials like this that are heading toward the edge of a cliff. They're everywhere out there.
    image.jpg

Be rewarded with something like this.
    IMG_20220901_183534109_HDR.jpg

EDIT: Also, unlike the trails up around Moab, you'll most likely find yourself very much alone in most of these places. After a couple of trips out there we ended up buying a Garmin InReach, just in case we had some kind of real emergency.

Those places look perfect. Yeah I guess cell service isn’t too good in a lot of those area. My wife does long distance kayak racing so she has a Garmin inreach service but I wouldn’t have thought to bring. Thanks for the info. The only thing I’m worry about now is the gas bill. Lol

Lol... The gas prices are what they are but ya gotta just roll with it and live life.

Just think, you guys will be making memories in what is a very unique and beautiful part of the good ol USofA. Not everybody gets to do that, and it'll be we'll worth the $$$$ for gas. Not to mention the $$$$ you'll be saving by staying out in Gods beautiful creation vs some lame ass motel/hotel/restaurant somewhere.

We'll be looking forward to your trip report (with tons of pics) when you guys get back. Have a blast and be safe!
    Cheers!

You’re right and Im not really worried. It will be interacting to see how much it takes. I work in the oil field so I really can’t complain about prices. Photography is another hobby of mine so hopefully I will get some good pictures. I think we have timed our trip when the moon should not be out and the skies will be dark. I really would like to get some night pictures. We have too much light pollution where I live to see the night sky’s like it look out west. Definitely will post some pictures when we get back.
