So I have a 2008 tundra double cab. I have found 2 camper shells but need to make a pretty far drive for both. Trying to figure out if either of them would be a good fit.

One is for a 1 generation 6.5 foot bed. Will this fit properly on a 2008 tundra double cab?

Second one is for a 2 generation, but it is for an 80" bed. Since mine is 78" will it look awkward? I think it was probably made for a single cab long bed.... i am assuming atleast.

Anyone been down a similar road?

    Gen 1 no.

A long bed is 8 feet. 96 inches.

    12 inches per foot.

Alright so you think they just measured it wrong? They are saying it is for a 2nd generation tundra but saying its 80" long.... its gotta be for a 6.5 foot bed at 78" right????

Probably. I’ll bet he is measuring the shell overall length. Remember they cover to back of the tailgate, not just the bed dimensions. All 07-13 78” bed trucks are the same

I am also trying to find any shell that might fit my new Tundra and so far I am convinced that no 1st gen shell will really fit any later truck.

Now I am also fairly sure that certain Chevy Shells might fit some of our trucks as well.

It should not be too tough to get someone to measure exactly how you want them to so that you can have some certainty before driving to see for yourself.

I sat that but also am finding myself that almost NO ONE can or will follow simple instructions for measuring that I trust for some reason and they seem uninterested entirely with my needs?

You know from the days when selling involved salesmanship on some level?

I went to Shell Stores until I found someone who knows and seems interested in actually helping me out while at the same time selling another shell if I can find one that fits and he is going to place a few on mine soon and we will see!

I have been researching for a while now and in the end I feel like waiting and finding the exact cap to fit your truck is the best option. I always see trucks that clearly have caps that weren't made for their truck and it always seems a bit awkward. If it is that close and you can get a test fit maybe its worth it but they are so god damn hard to find if your looking used.

I cant disagree but it also just is not Rocket Surgery either.
I swear I can not understand how people list them for sale but then will not help in any small way so that I might decide if the shell will work for me or not?

If the seller doesn’t know exactly what truck it came off of i would be concerned

1st and 2nd generation trucks are different bed profile widths and lengths

2nd gen CrewMAX shells won’t fit a double cab

You need a Tundra shell that’s specifically made for whatever generation and can style you have

You absolutely need to know what it was designed for/what truck it came off of

a Ford or Chevy etc.... shell won’t fit

    i hope that helps you

Did you end up getting a shell for your tundra? I have an 08 as well, and new to this shell hunting game.
