Recently traded in my 2013 ram 1500 because of cam/lifter issues that have been hitting alot of the 5.7 hemis. My friends has been in the shop for 3months already with maybe another 3 to go.
Figured if i want reliability tundras the way to go.
Now i see this cam tower leak issue.
    Is this really common

This has already been discussed in depth. There's a sticky thread at the top here.

Yeah probably right. Thought a poll might be better than reading a thread about the issue itself, since someone without the issue wouldnt likely post there.

Ranch Hand Summit front and rear bumpers. Diamondback SE tonneau cover. Rigid DOT fogs. LED headlight/fog replacement bulbs. Matt Gecko hood, and bed LED's. Foot well led's, and interior LED buld replacement. (warm) Broke the front shock of the 3" spacer lift, so replaced with 6112/5160 and 1' block rear. KO 2's. Speaker replacement, added amp and (2) 10's under seat. Weathertech floor mats. Salex organizers. Ziebart undercoating. RCI front, transmission/diff, and gas tank skids received, waiting for spring install. Compustar remote starter. front/rear dash cam.
I had the leak both sides. Toyota paid to fix it. Not a big deal, never left me on the side of the road. Keep your eye on it. If one side leaks a little, wait for both sides to leak then have the dealer fix at same time. Enjoy the truck!

My truck has it on one side so far; very minor and not enough to drip. On one hand, the truck is too new to have an oil seep. On the other hand, it is no big deal and it doesn't effect the function of the vehicle. For me, the bottom line is that it is annoying but not significant enough for me to consider moving to another brand of truck that will likely have far more significant problems that would cause the vehicle to be unusable.

22k no leaks. I bought a Toyota Extra Care Platinum $0 deductible for peace of mind. Got a great price from Jennifer Taylor at wolverine toyota. If your truck is less than 3yr/36k miles then it qualifies. If you are interested email her. My warranty is for 8 yrs/100k miles from when the truck was first purchased. (previous owner since I bought used)

Luckily, it’s very unlikely that the leak will become catastrophic if it ever does happen. It won’t leave you on the side of the road. It would have to be pretty bad.

I did! It’s is unique unscientific statistical sample of people willing to vote that are currently on the forum. Good enough for me until it leaks! :bananadance:

You have a reliable truck. Check out the cam towers real quick everytime when you pop the hood. There's rarely a weekend that goes by when I don't pop the hood and check things out. By the way.......as you've seen "we" can be a bit sarcastic at times...

I agree with @Grey Wolf . Just keep an eye out for the leak. Other than that, you should be all set..

It’s happened to me before. Cars I’ve owned years ago. Folks asked about paperwork or engine rebuild evidence 14 years later. This was a truck that was just traded a month ago. Seems ok to me. First time I have initiated it on my end but, I never minded folks asking me about an old car.

I wish someone would hit me up about some of my old vehicles. I’d like to know how they’ve been. Be nice to know it’s still running and living on.
