looks like I have it too...Just noticed minimal oil leak on both sides. It's coming from the grey sealant used there.
Honestly it probably been there for a long time since I never noticed any oil leak on the ground. I just happened to install new UCAs last week and while inspecting bolts today I noticed the small oil leaks.

    specs: 2012 5.7L engine. 58,000 miles

Now I have extended warranty til January 2020 so I'll probably wait before getting it fixed under warranty unless it starts to leak a lot more.

Well that sucks. Personally I would get it fixed asap, but that is how I roll though.

Sorry man. I'll post a pic on my thread later with the way the sealant looks after the fix. When you have them fix the tower, make sure they remove the heat shields and clean them really well. Oil collects on them in the dimples and slowly burns off, making it smell for a while unless they are cleaned first.

That sucks! I'm in the same boat, its pretty disheartening. I noticed it last oil change and have been watching it pretty diligently. It seems pretty minor and hasn't gotten any worse but definitely has me concerned. Im at 55,900 and dont have an extended warranty. Maybe someone can answer this for me as I'm the second owner....is this covered under the 60,000 warranty regardless of ownership? From what I've read I'm under the impression that it is covered but there always seems to be a 'catch 22'.

when is your date of first use? slight chance your still under 5yr/60k and i would get it covered now rather than later.

no its covered under 5yr/60k powertrain, I do all of them for my dealership i dont have a 'catch 22" except to give me a a few days with it so I dont have to rush and make sure its done and wont leak again.

X2 get it fixed ASAP. Like that you can monitor it while you have lots of warranty left.

Had mine fixed about 20,000km ago (12,400miles) And not a problem yet, and have pulled my camper with it. Still runs like new.

It’s a black sealant, so far so good

yea you should still be cover. And it really prolly depends on the tech, you pull out the cams and the timing chains, to me its more meticulous because there is alot that can go wrong even if it all looks ok. I do them in about half a day, warranty pays about 15 hrs. but i do a lot of heavy line, over 90% for my dealer and all 4.6 & 5.7 engines. when i start on them i dont stop until they are all done, so thats why i ask for a few days to move my work load around that repair.

Fingers crossed that they fixed this for the 16's. Still haven’t heard of a case past 2015.

From what i see, maybe i should be out there, seems alot of people could use a good toyota master lol, plus you guys have fun areas to drive and places to play, I have wheat lol, lots of wheat. And sometimes what helps is just talking or asking the tech how the feel about it, I dont mind, I have several great tundra customers here that were having a bad experience until you talk to them.

I read somewhere (can’t remember where) that they found out what was causing the issue and fixed it in 2015.

alright guys, Toyota got back to me. Nice phone call and opened a case number. I followed your advice and dropped the Beast at Toyota dealership today. They ordered the parts for both sides. I'm now driving a Nissan Sentra......black...of course..;).. I feel like a half man driving it on the freeway..lol

@TheBeast, sounds like she's on her way to being good as new again. I'm needing to do the same. If I can ask, how and who did you contact at Toyota to get the ball rolling and did they have any suggestions on what dealership to take it to?

I called customer care 800 number to get a case started. I was frustrated by the dealership where I purchased the truck, but Toyota asked me to continue to work with them. Toyota sent out a master tech to school the dealership and customer care helped me with a warranty afterwards.

    @duece292

honestly I called Toyota to open a case so they would have a trace of my request and could monitor in case I would run into issues with the dealership I would go with. They wouldn't recommend any dealerships since they compete against each others.
I just asked my Toyota mechanic (independent shop owner now) to recommend me a dealership with good mechanics around here. He sent me to that one. I just showed up and they checked the leaks and ordered the parts, gave me a loaner and sent me my way. They didn't try to argue or whatever. I'm guessing I'm not the first one to come for that issue. It's probably the biggest dealership in L.A. Now hopefully it gets fixed the correct way and the first time but I still have plenty of warranty left to monitor any issues or not.

I know the feeling! Every time I get a rental I'm quickly reminded of why I hate driving cars lol.
Thanks for the info! I called Toyota today and had them open a case as well. The girl I spoke with, although a little hard to understand, was very helpful and very quick to assure me that I'm well within the powertrain warranty. I called the local dealer and have an appointment set for them to look at it and see what they need to do the job. My S.A. at the dealer wasn't sure if they'd ever done one of these so hopefully they've got a tech who's confident in his abilities.

the thing you want is being documented by Toyota: the more paperwork the better in case it goes south.

That's what I thought too and is why getting Toyota involved prior to going to the dealer seemed like the best way to approach this. I have a pretty good relationship with my S.A. (for the few times my truck has been in) so I'm confident he'll get me taken care of. I guess all I can do now is cross my fingers and hope for the best
