Welcome! Ask them if they can do both sides. Might as well since they will be in there already.

I just had Beaverton Toyota do mine. It was a good experience and it drives exactly the same as before. I asked them to take a look at the cam tower leak a few weeks ago cause it was leaking a tad. I expected the run around but they confirmed the minor leak and got it taken care of. Gave me a free camry loaner for the 6 days too.

I'm curious how long it takes to complete this service. Mine was done last week and it took them one day to do both sides. They started on it Wednesday last week at noon and I picked my truck up the next day at 2 in the afternoon. Is that normal?

My dealership told me it would take close to 20 hours to do mine. But my truck was out of warranty so I paid my self.

Can you post a photo and can you see the black gasket maker in the cam tower area? Based on what others have said here, Toyota is underpaying technicians and forcing them to complete the work quickly so this may be a reason for the rapid turnaround.

They started on Friday I stopped by around 5:00 tonight. They have the whole engine torn apart about broke into tears. The tech. Said he hopes to have it done by tomorrow. This whole process has just made me sick. Toyota should be covering this. There is no reason to have to tear down and brake open A perfectly good engine from my reliable company as though we all thought!!!!!!

BS! I'd put my name in with that law firm and see if you can't get your money back. What do you have to lose by calling the law firm?

Ya man the dealership sure are making a killing off all of us. I’m sure Toyota is getting a kick back off that also. that’s what’s covering all the ones that they are fixing for warranty.

O I sure did I called and talked with that law firm on Wednesday for over 45 minutes. You better believe that. Just have to fax over some paperwork when they get my truck done lol. You know receipt paid in full when I paid to the dealership to have the shit fixed.

Asked my service manager about this today: he said they hadn't seen this really since 2015 - 2016. He said they check for the leaks. Couldn't help but wonder if he was telling me the truth or not. Of course, a site like this brings all the cases together to one thread, which can create the impression that this is happening a lot, when it actually isn't. I can't understand the 'hit and miss' nature of this, as all the engines are made in the same place. Anyway, this thread has me concerned about it ...

Just goggle search cam tower leak and you won’t believe what pulls up. There are more than just tundras.com out there talking about it.

After I've cleaned the driver side up to see if it would start leaking /'seeping' again, I really haven't noticed anything. It's either that minimal or hard to tell from all the salt/mud/road water from winter (and the previous winter where I first noticed it this fall before cleaning). Still keeping an eye on it and documenting. Passenger side still looks clean. Fingers still crossed while knocking on wood (and drinking a beer to help forget this is a problem).

Everyone on this site, I hope you’ve got on that website.
yea big dawg.. took my truck in for oil change.. he called back an hour later telling me that mine was leaking.. fixed it that day and the next. Covered under warranty but it’s bs that they are telling people that it’s not leaking enough to fix it.. that’s a terrible dealership.

My rep told me when I was picking my truck up, that they’ve been doing 2-3 every week for the last few months.

Question. Would you guys get this issue fixed immediately if your truck was at 63k with a certified warranty or wait closer to 100k mile before the warranty expired? I thought waiting was a good idea in case something else were to be giving out.

If both sides have been recognized by Toyota as leaking I would see no reason to wait. If only one side is leaking, and Toyota will only do one side, I would wait.

Hey J, The dealer I used is a little dealership, with only a couple tundras on the lot. The master tech had also only done a couple of these. It might be worth while to talk to the tech that would do your truck at Lariche and feel him out. I think that working with someone that you trust can sometimes beat experience. Just a thought. Good luck!
