Just dropped mine off. 2017 with 45kish miles. No problems with the warranty fixing it. Hopefully this is the last I hear of the leak for a while.

I tried but Toyota Rep. said because my truck is 12years old now they had no way of telling when the leak started then they said no and have a nice day.

2019 owners...my ‘19 has 1,500 miles and I looked at my valve covers and cam towers closely tonight with my olight torch to see if there was any sign of leaks. No leaks but what caught me by surprise was how much gray gasket maker I can see on both sides. I even got my hands in there and yup, felt the rubbery gasket material, plenty of gasket maker was in fact installed. It looks like Toyota is being more generous with the amount they used on my engine., but who knows if it will help. Anyhow, can someone post a close up photo of their pre-2018 cam tower area so that I can compare?

Mine has lots of gaskets as well. It's very dark gray gasket. There is gray and black but some have very dark gray ... Mine looks like a kid did the work and extra gasket dripping and dried out on the sides ... lol

What year is your truck. How many miles? Would you mind posting a pic of your gray gasket maker?

Dealer called and said my truck is ready. I had the brakes done as well, is it normal for them to wear out by 45k?

A little of this and a little of that.

I did mine at 30k. Just depends on how hard you brake

I'm at 36K right now, about 2 weeks ago when I had my 35K oil change the dealer said i had a ways to go with the brakes. I forget how many mm's were left, but it was quite a bit. Glad to hear your truck is done. I go in on Saturday for them to look at mine.

They are helpful - thank you. It is a bit tough to tell in the photos but does the original gray gasket maker that was used for the cam towers looks like it was squishing out after assembly? In my rig, I can see a generous amount of the gray/rubbery gasket maker that was used on the cam towers. What I'm trying to learn...is the gasket maker being used poor in nature or is it the fact they did not use enough? In my case, there is a generous amount because excess was squeezed out and eventually dried. I'll also post photos when it stops raining here in California.

Just got mine back today, there’s a lot of black gasket material oozing out the sides. It was -3 outside when I picked her up this morning so I let it warm up for a while then drove the 30 mile drive home sounded great nothing seemed different. I’ll post pictures later of the repair. But so far so go!

Here are photos of my 2019 (driver and passenger sides) cam towers. Can anyone see the fairly generous bead on gray gasket maker?FA13817E-F31C-4083-BF6C-19C4177ECFF4.jpg 018FEF75-AF14-4052-B63D-007BE086D470.jpg

I just dropped mine off a few hours ago too! Vancouver Toyota.
We’ll see what they say tomorrow morning. It sounds like they might not fix mine.

I’m prudent with my maintanence and do it all myself, usually. I’ll keep an eye on it but would ask for other ‘19 owners to post some photos to see if this is consistent. Also, even with the additional silicone, if it is cheap silicone, I could still see leaks. Who really knows?

That's how mine looks. However you need to look towards the rear of the motor.

Cabin. Poke your head inside the wheel well, aim your camera up towards the rear of the motor. 20190122_110347.jpg

The definition of "seep" is "slow leak." Sorry you are having a poor experience.

This is what is going to happen to me, I’m positive. I debated not even taking it in but this thread convinced me.
I can’t see them fixing mine. It’s just not enough oil.
    I’m at 59,800 miles LOL!!
So I don’t exactly have time to “make it drip” on the heat shield. Wish this was posted last night, because then it would’ve. LOL :D
