The arrival of my first little one is imminent. :D I would really like to find some kind of seat protector for the back seat of my DC Tundra. I'd prefer not to purchase seat covers, I just want something temporary but functional to sit under the car seat that will protect the seat from spills and scattered food. I'm open to homemade idea's too.

You can use one of those fabric front and plastic back picnic blankets. It'll protect against all kinds of nasty messes and fold up to stow way nicely.

    I bet you’re so excited!!

I would buy what @BHarry posted. These are safe for use with a car seat.

I used a towel for a while. The local fire department was offering classes on how to install child safety seats and when they seen this, had a long discussion with me why this is not a good idea. Highlights:
-Can hinder proper installation and cause a “lose” base. They said I would be surprised at how many seats were not properly installed.
-Fire during accident. Most towels are not 100% cotton and will light up faster than a joint at a fraternity party causing severe burns...or worse.

When my kids finally were in booster seats, I didn’t use anything. So far, no issues. My kids only get water in my vehicles.

One other tip. When you hold your child for the first time, remember to breathe. That first time rocked my world.

Take the wife's car. Honestly I'd invest in some seat covers. Congrats and enjoy your new addition

Most of the seat protectors don't come up high enough on the seat back when the kid gets out of the tiny infant stage, but is still backwards facing (until at least 2 or longer). What I did was get one of those seatback kick mats that you normally put on the back of the front seats and used it to keep the back seat seat backs protected from kicking little feet.
You'll still want to take the carseats out from time to time and use a damp rag and vac to clean out the seats and wipe off the seat protectors.

I didn’t bother and just figured after my son ruin it then it is a good reason to redo the seats with custom leather.

Been using one of these for awhile. I also have the ones that go on the back of the front seats for my older one. Saves my leather from getting messed up.

Congrats to you on your little one! Being a dad is truly a belssing! We have one of these for our son's car seat and it works great. I actually just ordered another one for our daughter who's due in a couple weeks. I'm sure other ones work well too, but just make sure you get one that doesn't slide around. We ended up returning a different brand because no matter what we did, the seat would easily move back and forth.

Congratulations Daniel! You might wanna be sitting too the first time you hold your kid. Like @ColoradoTJ said, it rockedmy world. And, like he mentioned, it's a really good idea to have whatever authority check out your seat install. Here in Cali, for me, it was the CHP. Geeez, hard to believe that was 15 1/2 yrs. ago.
    Congrats Mike!

Had a Kurgo car seat cover in a few vehicles now. I know you said no seat cover, but honestly these are gold. Made for dogs, and is very water resistant. Lifetime warranty, and it also has little pockets you can store a bottle and some snacks.

Recently my oldest was disrespecting her mother and yelling at her. I was in the garage and started coming inside and then slammed the bedroom door.

Those two things will wind me up like a 2.00 wrist watch. I’m pretty sure she won’t do that again if she wants a bedroom...or an ass.

I won’t tolerate a disrespectful child. If they will not respect the ones that love them the most, they will not respect themselves.
