The same with mine. WKOR sliders that were powder coated. Most likely going to take them off, clean them, then primer and rattle can with rustoleum.

is it dumb to try to rattle them while on the truck? If I take them off they aren't going back on, they were a pain to put on.

If I do them on the truck, I'd tape and newspaper the shit out of the side of the truck to make sure I don't spray

Not dumb. Get some 2mil poly and cover the side of the truck. Cut out an opening for the silders and tape it all up.

It’s all in the prep work. But I’ll most likely take it off.

I’m just playing devils advocate but my immediate reaction from your picture is you have aftermarket wheels and all terrains that are sticking out and throwing up rocks and such, and it chipped your sliders. I wouldn’t imagine many companies would warranty that. Especially because you said it was chipped through winter. Of course you have corrosion issues.

be aware no matter what you do sand it all down and get it clean before you do anything. Rust converting primer, and then rattle can bed liner is probably the thing to do. It’s just going to keep getting rock chips and that’s probably most durable.

It's not the upgrades...trust me. The crap our DOT throws on the road is brutal to vehicles.

Well I’m just saying… the tires that stick out will hit the leading edge with rocks and chip it… exactly where it’s chipped. And if it’s chipped it’s obviously going to rust. And then it’ll spread.

Trust me it’s everywhere not just the front. Literally the entire slider is rusting. I get what you’re saying but it’s not just the front

Any off-road specific brand like CaliRaised had BETTER be assuming folks using their products have oversized tires :notsure: mods like that are kinda the exact reason their brand exists. I can assure you that CaliRaised wants their customers to continue putting giant all terrain tires on their vehicles, cuz those are the vehicles that use their parts

These kinds of complaints are why some companies only sell the sliders bare. Powder coating wears, and will have to be touched up. There is no perfect solution, and I don't know of anyone that guarantees the powder coating purely because LTL shippers beat the piss out of stuff.

I bought my RCI bare metal.

Prepped the crap out of them. POR15 and then Rustoluem spray.

They survived my first Canadian winter without fail. They may have a spot or two of surface rust, smaller than my pinky nail, but that's it. Most likely from parking outside all night and then a heated garage during the day at work.

Hopefully you can get your sorted out.

It has now, but they started rusting right away. It’s been 18 months now and they are trashed.
That’s what I’m most pissed at, I brought this up immediately when it started early on and cali didn’t care. Now it’s been a year and a half

Easy add on money, that many will tack on to a purchase.

No warranty, no recourse. It's a win win for them, like undercoating or fabric guard.

Some don't even guarantee the powder coat will survive shipping. That was reason enough for me to go DIY route.

Ah, I misunderstood. I read this thread this morning after coming off a night shift. My comprehension was pretty crap.

I do have a question: Did you buy these from CaliRaisedLED or from CaliRaisedOffRoad?

NFab warranties for 5 years on finish. Mine got replaced twice before they just refunded my money.

Does NFab make sliders? I don't think they do, so the comparison isn't quite valid.

Your wheels look to extend several inches beyond your fenders... I don't think the powder coat is to blame here.

Not the same though. None of what they sell is meant to be armor, so them giving a warranty is more understandable. However, your post does illustrate that even for a not armor application, powder coating will fail.

Not saying it doesn't suck, but it tells you to contact them about warranty questions right on the page. I promise they would say they do not warranty the powder coat.

As for the pictures, it's called marketing. Toyota shows the new Tundra pulling a 5th wheel. They show them off road, but then say not to do that very thing. The argument could be made that trucks with that stance are just as likely, if not more likely, to be a mall crawler. That picture in no way implies a warranty or the durability of powder coating.

I'm not trying to tear you down because your situation does suck, but I am trying to get you to manage your future expectations.

Strip them and use Rustoleum bedliner in a rattle can. I sprayed my bumper with it and the finish is great and can easily be touched up. Especially if you're going to use those sliders this is your best option.

Understood. Just consider that in the winter when they treat the roads you are effectively low-pressure sandblasting your sliders, precisely where you see the coating failure, with a corrosive abrasive.

I would prep and rattle can as others have suggested. You could have them powdercoated by a local shop but it would be a waste of money because this will happen again.

Wire wheel until you have bare metal. Clean thoroughly with acetone. Allow to dry then use a rust inhibiting primer and paint. Don't use bedliner because it is not rust inhibiting and doesn't bond to steel like the right paint will. You will get salt and moisture under the bedliner and then the rust will really do some damage.

Personally, I would pull them and touch up everywhere that needs it.
