We're a constitutional republic, not a representational democracy. Britain's parliament is a form of representational democracy as nothing governs the majority there. America is governed by our Constitution, so the majority that governs us is governed under the legal system by the Constitution. The majority's power is not absolute nor unlimited in the US and that's the distinction.

I know. I just look at how drastically things have changed in just 100 years. A lot of great stuff has happened. But so much that I don’t think we knew how to deal with it as well. I hope it levels out.

The vast majority of candidates you'll ever vote for will not share your viewpoints 100%. Most of the ones that do only say they do, but vote otherwise. Most of the ones that vote with you will eventually vote the other way if they're in office long enough. Most of the ones that vote consistently with their unchanging beliefs don't last long in office. The best I feel we can do is to keep the ones that are doing the right thing in office as long as possible and vote in the next best candidate when the time comes for the incumbent to move on. It definitely pays to do your research and especially look up their voting history on issues that matter to you personally.

While true, I disagree its a foregone conclusion here. No empire in the history of the human race has tried what we're trying here. The "American experiment" is unique. So long as we're willing to keep working for it, there's a chance it will survive. Stop working for it, or perhaps stop instilling an understanding of why what we have is so important in our youth, and yeah, we're done.

Seen education nowadays? I think we are on this path. How do you explain socialist candidates even making it on the ballot? Can you have fathomed than 30 years ago? How people that have parents that came from Cuba, Nazi Germany, etc. could vote to erode our rights? That what they deem as hateful speech be silenced (control what could be posted online)? Removal of guns (violate 2A)? OK to search and seize without probable cause (red flag laws)? Guilty before innocent (supreme court show)?

China's the biggest threat to taking over that #1 spot right now. I'm not sure I want anyone to play second fiddle or worse to Communism/Socialism. I think we'll have a third world war though before that actually happens.

No argument from me. You're right. Those that would see us destroyed aren't dumb. They recognize our youth is the key. I could quote you historians, thinkers, dictators, and philosophers a dozen times over on this point, but no need; you're spot on.

But then I see kids like my nieces and nephews (no kids of my own), and their friends, and I have hope. Most all of them have been 'taught it', 'get it', and are 'living it'. And fortunately, they're not alone. When I turn off the "news", social media and other noise, and step outside and look around, I see things that give me guarded hope. I have to believe that for every action...

Gerrymandering goes both ways. Many states recently are addressing gerrymandering like CO. Good...bad??? Depends who is on the CO commission for example. Bottom line....without the EC you might as well throw in the towel. The new census will have a question if you are a citizen. This single question could shift the EC big time and give heart land/fly over states true EC representation. EC should be based on US citizens not just how many live in a household. Certain states are freaking out already because they stand to lose a lot of Fed tax subsidies based upon total number of "people" not US citizens. Food for thought.

Good thing we are not a true democracy like Greece. We are a Federal Republic based upon democratic ideals. The founding fathers thought this shit out to prevent the same bullshit they left. Not perfect but the idea was to give protections from large population states dominating and a tyrannical government. Power to the states EQUALLY...

The good news (if you can call it that) is the CRPA is on this like stink on shit. Its a gun ban without the title. And they're suing. I'm no lawyer, but those that are say they've got a pretty good case.

Which reminds me, even though we're no longer residents of the state, we are and always will be CRPA members. We decided a while back they're California's best hope when it comes to 2A rights in the state.

The big 3 networks have been lying to the ppl for the last 50 years. Not so much blatant lies, they lie by omission, cherry picking parts of a story in order to create a narrative sympathetic to their liberal, Marxist ideology, while ignoring the facts. All of academia, entertainment, and a huge portion of govt. buy into this poison. They hate Fox and Breitbart because they dare keep the populace informed.

I get it but my $ goes to local Colorado firearm interests. I could list a few of them if you want to support them. 2nd amendment issues are better dealt with in other forums. The Mods have been watching this thread and have been a bit lenient. I know 3 of them personally and share the same beliefs somewhat as myself but I'm not immune to get a forum vacation...tread lightly....

You are good.. A link is okay. Mods, rightly so, worry about a shit show starting because there is no right or wrong depending what side of the fence you are on. So far the discussion on this thread has been cool. I'm absolutely certain some posts have been removed that were deemed not appropriate. It's not easy being a Mod. But then the "delete" button is a piece of cake..heh...heh...

Ha no doubt about that. I've been a mod, super mod, admin and forum owner (all specialty auto related), so I read you loud and clear. Its a tough, thankless job and I don't envy them.

This is what I am afraid of also....and I am trying to teach my children the love of our country and values that our family has had for years while also teaching them to think on their own and to make educated choices.
last 100? Hell look at the last 20-25 years....
Very true...unless we somehow make it until the end of earthly times
It's coming....only a matter of time. And people think I'm weird for wanting the things I do at my house....in just not rich enough to have them.
agree with this....sometimes it's hard to believe we won't self destruct though....

Have faith in this great country Bree. I know you do. I personally don't like what's going on. Too much hate. A wide division now...but think about it...we've had wide divisions before...the correction will come....when?? That lodge in AK is looking pretty good right now...heh...heh...
