    Hello All,

I was wondering if anyone has seen this set up ran with the TRD sport Grill? (Picture of my grill attached)

What I’m trying to accomplish is additional light when driving up in the mountains from a “spot and combo” lighting perspective. Without bolting something external of the body.

However, my fear is spending a 600-900 hundred bucks on this complete set up and more light being blocked that projected.

Any feedback and knowledge is appreciated.

    Thanks
    -Joe

You'll likely loose some light behind that grill.

I was trying to find a picture like that for reference and there it is, so thank you.

Looking at that, a lot of the light would be blocked. Looks like I will just have to do the one that integrates into the lower bumper in a combo series light.

You could also do the SDHQ/Baja Designs hood bulge bar. A single 40" S8 outputs 25,000 lumen and it's bulletproof. From what I've gathered, Cali Raised's quality is questionable.

Not sure about that exact setup but this set up on my limited puts out a lot of light. I would assume it would be similar. It's the cali raised kit.

Go with Diode Dynamics dual bar with behind the grille bracket kit they sale. It fits nicely in the gap on the sport grille. Just need to add some extenders. Most complimented part on my truck.

I really like that idea. I think I may make some custom brackets and run a 40” S8 light bar.

Not the sport grille, but here’s my dual set-up. Just bought the brackets from Cali, not the light bars, much cheaper:

$90 for a 41” light bar on Amazon in the hood bulge. Lights up dark mountain roads with ease. AF68A68D-66B8-4450-AA5A-EDB7106A789F.jpg

How did you get the light bar to mount properly in the hood bulge? Did you buy your own brackets or fab some up?

For the hood bulge, there are several bracket options out there, and I’ve tried the two most popular designs. The SDHQ brackets, while being a little more labor-intensive to install, are the most solid in my opinion. The HR NSV light bar is really nice, but was way too expensive for my needs.

Duel Cali Raised bars and bracket. Super easy instal. Also, if you don’t like exactly where the light bars are just drill your own hole in them and move the light up or down according to your liking.

Before hood bulge brackets, do some searching. There are quite a few people who complain about hood bounce at speed. In order to mount the light, structural support brackets are removed. Some people made their own to help reduce issues down the road. @matictundra

Interesting that it cracked before he noticed/did something about it. Cracking of a metal hood takes more than daily driving and the occasional off-road trip.

I will figure out a way to brace up the opening and secure the plastics push-pins more effectively to hopefully avoid these issues.

Thanks again for the insight sir.

I'm sure he noticed it flopping and either 1. Didnt think much of it until something actually happened (members here also complain of the flopping and seemingly "dont fix" it...) 2. Trying to figure out a solution but didnt get a chance until it was too late.

    Unsure

Haha, that’s hilarious, but all to true. The moment my hood started doing that, it would just be replaced. I am way way to OCD.

Started mocking up the light bar today for behind the grill. Unfortunately I had to notch the core support slightly and reposition some of the electrical line. Due to the bar running behind the safety sense in Toyota emblem.

Once I finish up everything tomorrow I’ll post some pictures

Finished up fab on brackets today. Might have gone a little overboard using 1/4 plate. Lol

Just need to grind down the sharp edges, paint, and then reassemble.

i’ll post some final pictures when done.

I have a bulge light bar installed, cut the hood supports and even when I took my truck to the speed limiter I have never experienced any issues with hood flop or vibration. The trim piece did pop out up top all of the time until I upgraded to the newer clips, and now it stays put. Fitment is a PITA, however. But wow, does it light up the dark canyon road I take at night. Far far brighter than the factory LED headlights.

I plan on adding another light bar once I install the Warn winch bumper.

Got the behind the grill bar all dialed in, testing fitting/mocking up hood bulge. Should be able to knock out all wiring and final mock up tomorrow.

    @Cruzer

Quick question on fitment of a light bar in the bulge.

I am using the same bar and mounting brackets the video uses and I’m assuming you used as well. However, the hood bulge upper outer clips are hitting the light bar not allowing it to secure completely. Was there something specific you had to do to get this to fit or did you not even have this.
