Fram says the arrows don't matter. The dark side is impregnated charcoal and the light side is baking soda. He said they are doing away with the arrows in the future. Lol

I just stopped at a O'Reilly's, they have the brand MicroGaurd or Fiber, took one out of box, white on both sides, no dark side

So either way installed is a-ok? It's funny I recently installed a fram one and it seems to have a different smell with the A/C on, its not a scented one but yet a musky smell blowing out? Maybe I installed it wrong way up or down, Damn I get confused every time and go through same ole shit, arrow up or down! :frusty::facepalm:

The arrow can indicate 'this side up' when installing the filter, or 'air flow' which is down toward the fan motor.

Exactly if it says "air flow" then down if not then up. This thread is anal.

I just changed the one in my wife's gx 460 and the cover had an arrow pointing up. All of the dirt was on the top of the old filter. So the arrow was opposite of the air flow.

It would be so much easier if the manufactures would print "up" near the edge of the filter...

I saw this thread months ago and thought it was silly. All this over a cabin air filter. Then during a recent inspection, the service place showed me the old one, which definitely needed to be replaced. They offered to do it for $27. I politely declined. Got one from Amazon for $8.87. Opened it up and saw the airflow arrow. Had to come back to this thread to verify. LOL.

The problem is some say "This Side Up" and some note the airflow direction like yours. Dealers love the easy money replacing cabin filters

So would we all agree this is correct? I think it is. What’s confusing is the cover plate that goes over the filter (the next and final step when reassembling glove box in my pic) says “UP ”, what the hell is the point of this cover plate stating “UP”(w/ an arrow pointing up)?!? If it weren’t for this site, I’d think they’re trying to tell me the direction of air flow is up...this confused the shit out of me today, and when one side of my filter is carbon and the other is baking soda, I think I wanna get it right...

Yes. The dirt accumulates on top which is a great indication of flow. If the filter says this side up... do that. And if it says v air flow point the arrow down.

One side of the filter is positioned up, and the air always flows down.

either way it should not matter direction. It filters the dirt out of cabin and face.
