I'm with ya Joon. I replaced my filter last week and it had arrows for "air flow direction" not a "this side up" arrow. I made the assumption that the air flows down from the cowl, plus the top of the filter is what gets nasty. But that was just an assumption and I could be wrong.

    Iv been using these..https://www.amazon.com/CF10285-Fresh-Breeze-Filter-Hammer/dp/B001CEG90I
This post made me go check plus its been about a year since i changed the filter. I pulled the old one out and opened a brand new filter...get this.. The sides are different colored on the Fram filters.. one arrow goes one way on one and th other way on the other one..:der: Also one filter has more pleats than the other.. Im done with Fram after this. This is the only application where i ever used fram as i think they are not good otherwise.

Yep so the debris doesnt fall out when you remove the filter...problem is some filters have air flow direction with air flow, some only have arrow and oem has arrow up but the air flows opposite the arrow on the oem. On my Frams, one had air flow with arrow..the other had only arrow. lol

One time I pulled out a K&N cabin filter ... cracked me up thinking K&N pro ably charges 100 bucks for the damn thing. Then I looked at it closer, the damn genius that owns the car sprayed it with K&N air filter oil. Smart people

Bringing this thread back, as I just changed mine out, the label on the old CF was printed on correctly as the arrow label on plastic cover, I just bought a new one same brand Frame and the printed label on the side was upside down!?!?! WTF?!?! I called Fram, spoke with the tech, he said point arrow in direction of airflow which is down

exactly, dealers have to love cabin filters. Just a few minutes to change out and easy to convince the naïve that they need one. Dealer said I needed one last oil change. Pulled it out 2 days ago and knocked and blew some debris out of it and it is fine. I found it interesting that on the side of the filter it says "Non serviceable". Loose particles are not a problem. It is accumulating dust that kills them. Mine had none.

That's what I was saying earlier! look at these pics.. on the fram there is a dark side and a light side. Newest filter on the left is opposite of the used one. Also notice the difference in pleats. So is the dark side supposed to be inflow or outflow?

I would say if it says up, put that side up. If it says airflow this direction. Point it down. I think typically the filters are flowing down because that’s where all the debris is going to build up. It wouldn’t make sense for it to flow up.

The Frame tech said go with airflow direction in truck which is down, he told me stick a piece of paper hold onto turn A/C airflow was goin down, the old Fram CF had one side white and a dark side with the printed label facing up as the plastic cover indicated, now the new same brand filter was white on both sides and arrow or label pointing down, Fram tech said point down

Have a smoker blow through it both ways and see which is better. Then put it in the direction of flow.

That’s what I’m saying. My filter gets dirty on top. That means the air is flowing down. So if the filter says this side up just put that side up. Most likely that filter was meant for your car so they’re making it easy. But at the same time confusing people with the difference of this side up, or airflow this direction LOL.

The frams have a dark side and a light side...My old one i had in opposite to how i now have the new one in. lol So the new one (pic on the left) i installed with the dark side up. Fram screwed up on the old ones im guessing. Just compared the OEM filter to the Fram and the Fram is more substantial.

My guess is that it really doesn't matter as long as if you take it out to clean you put it back in the same way

I would assume that the dark side is Carbon? If that’s the case I would think you would want the carbon side towards the outlet. Similar to a water filter. Carbon being the final filtration stage.
