Thanks for the explainer. Based on pics the ball is not included with the truck. Hopefully will get some clues from the trailer connector or at worst, ask the local dealership to pull the diff cover off and inspect the teeth on the diff? Though the stress would really be on the trans i suppose.

Anyways, maintenance records look real regular and consistent so that's a bonus.

Ya I always look at service history. I just bought a 2008 Crewmax SR5 with the pictures ARE shell 2wd for $14,400. It has 130k and been in Austin TX and Phoenix AZ all it’s life. Perfect service history and spotless frame. Needs tires balances or at worst new set of tires and wheels. May need water pump sometime in the next year or 2... but it was setup like I wanted so flew down and purchased. Mine has towed a few campers prior to me buying but has stock cheapo standard mirrors. Sometimes hard to find a really clean straight 4wd from down south cuz seemed to me like they’ve all been “well used”. But I didn’t need 4wd for what I’m using it for so figured I’d take my chance on a used on. Couldn’t afford new!

Flew to Texas. Lots of disappointment. Settled on a 2014. 4.7 4wd. 84k miles. Lots of negotiating and back and forth and then they surprised me with a repair timeline that meant I had to fly back and going to ship the car in a week or so. 23,300 before tax and papers. Truck prices are high right now

I was in that same boat and it ended up being a wheel bearing, which is a total PITA.

Just reading through this thread as I prepare to purchase an 08 Tundra (5.7L, double cab) here in Colorado. Everything looks minty in the photos, but no frame is shown. 1 hour drive, no biggie to go check it out this Friday.

The comments regarding price were salt in the economic wound, though!! Buddy wants $18,500 for this 08, 200k miles, true it comes with a spanking new Leer 122 which is nearly $3k itself (and I planned to add one regardless, so this is one expense I won't have). Still. Bit steep, but that's this market!

Great info here, thanks all for your posts. Still helpful.

I was super lucky to find an '08 with only 74K on it back in March (clean title, great shape except the interior had something spilled on the carpet, full dealership maintenance records since new). Had to shell out $16,500 for it which felt like a lot, but the way prices are these days it was actually not as crazy as some.
