    Afternoon Gents,

Im looking at buying a 2007 Toyota Tundra, I've done some research seen that the 2007 Tundras have been known to have more problems then the latter years. Is this true? If so what would you recommend I look for when looking at a 2007 5.7 with 133,000 miles? The owner says it runs great and hes never had a problem with it other then Toyota sending him a few recalls for it which they preformed the remedies.

I don't want to get stuck with a truck with a list of major possible problems due to it being the first year of this body.

    Thanks!!

My 07 has had one reported problem and that was in 09. A new CV boot kit was installed on passenger side. I'm at 71500 k and not one leak to be found anywhere. I take my Tundra off the road a lot. Quite frankly very few problems have been reported for the 07. The ones that were reported were mostly all minor in nature. The were 20+ 07 Tundras early on that got new engines due to a bad run of cams. Bad metallurgy from supplier. Wasn't found out until after after engines were already in. Less than .01% of production run. Most first year models from Toyota do not experience serious issues at all.

Well hell, I asked some more questions over the phone and apparently its the 4.7 v8.. Is it even still worth buying with the smaller v8?

It all depends on what you are going to do with your Tundra. Tow a lot, haul heavy loads a lot? Then wait and find a 5.7L. The Air Injection Pump issue was a problem for all Tundras up to 2011(warranty stopped at 2011). AIP warranty is 10 years, or 150K. I'm inclined to think most AIP issues, although a small # compared to total production runs historically are low % wise, I'd bet that most Tundras affected were exposed/operated in high humidity climes. Don't quote me on that but I wouldn't be surprised at all if that was the case.

Hmm well that's good to know, Ive heard and read about that. I wont be doing very much towing, maybe a side by side trailer and a small 16' boat a few times a year. Im considering it, because of the 4.7's reputation. everyone on this site always says to wait for a 5.7 however.

Maybe someone will here will chime in that tows occasionally with the 4.6L. It's nice to have that extra oomph torque wise with the 5.7L.

98% of those in this forum with the 4.6 or whatever wish they got the 5.7. Big difference in power and retention value.

You didn't mention asking price. That could be a game changer.

Drive it side by side if you can. When I did - there wasn't even a competition.

Rusting frames has been an issue you may want to look into. I think the years are:
    • 2005-2010 Toyota Tacoma
    • 2007-2008 Toyota Tundra

I have an '07 with 162,000 miles and I had to replace the starter about 3 years ago. Other than that, it's been great.

I have a 4.7l in mine. granted i am new to Tundras but i didn't have one issue towing my 29ft. TT hunting this season. It actually towed it better than my dads f250 and did better on gas. But i don't tow very often and if i had the option i would have gotten the 5.7l. just a good deal for my area and the 5.7 is alot more money.

I have an '07 Crewmax with the 5.7 and 125,000 miles on it. Used it for towing a handful of times. The only problem I had was when the accelerator switch went out around 30,000 - it's throttle by wire. Lucky for me, the Toyota dealer was only a mile away. Besides normal maintenance it has been one of the most trouble free vehicles I've owned. Also mine has not had any corrosion problems with the frame.

Before upgrading to the 13 CM RW 5.7 I owned a 07 DC Limited 4.7 I only had one issue with it and that was when the engine light come on, I took it in to Toyota who diagnosed it as the secondary air pump, as I purchased the extended warranty when I bought it, It was 100% covered and it didn't cost me anything!!

I loved it my 07 with the 4.7 in it, I used it to tow my 17ft Bayliner no issues, and had several full loads in the bed, never had an issue with towing or mpg. However, when I test drove a 5.7 I knew I had to have one, and set my sights on the Rock Warrior!!

I towed a 28' enclosed trailer loaded to the brim from Utah to Massachusetts with the 4.7 and back from MA to UT with the 5.7.

All I can say is I averaged 2.2 mpg better on the 5.7 under load (according to my scangauge). And it didn't feel like I even had a trailer behind me most the time. The 4.7 did it - but there was noticeable hesitations, especially in heavy traffic. I also noticed a lot of "stress" shifting from the 4.7.

I will say that neither of my trucks have had any major issues and they both worked wonderfully. It really comes down to application and personal pref.

I have zero rust on my frame. CO has a dry climate and no winter salt on the roads.

I own a '07 Tundra SR5 DC. It has a 5.7 and the only issue I have had was with the AIP other than that I have had any issues. And I tow a 27 ft. travel trailer and it does not have to strain at all going over the mountains. My wife and I absolutely love it. If you can I would go with the 5.7 you never know what you might tow. When I bought my truck I had no intention of ever towing. And here I am towing. (1st summer ever towing). So go with more than you think you will need.

I had an 07 limited 4x4 TRD before the 16 I have now. Absolutely no problems with it. I towed 6k Lbs TT and 6k Lbs boat just about every other weekend during spring summer and fall. I miss her....
