Honestly, I don't know. When I lived up north (MI and IN), I always made sure to hit the car wash between snow storms to try and keep the road salt/brine off of it. They used to have auto washes with undercarriage sprays, I liked to use those. Never had an issue with rust - but that was before I was driving Toyota (Jeep/Dodge at the time). I assume the same would keep the Tundra happy for quite a few years, but I have also seen threads on here where guys up north like to use some kind of undercarriage treatment to help prevent rust issues. You might look into that.

I plan on using aerosol Fluid Film on the underside of the truck once or twice a year. I do remember seeing note of a "galvanized frame" on one dealer's listing for a Tundra but have not seen corroboration of that assertion anywhere else online, including Toyota USA's website. If I was galvanizing car body panels (or less likely frames), I'd put that on every webpage & brochure I could as a selling point.

Ever seen a rusted out Volvo post model year 1980 or so? Of course not. There's a reason for that. Galvanized body panels.

My '19 F-350 has a tad over 30k on it and has been great, no issues. 4x4 is great when needed. The '15 F-350 before it had AdvanceTrac issues like crazy, weird gremlin that never really got figured out. Ford's do have a much worse reputation and they've definitely earned it.

Blaaaaack is the most beautiful color, don't let the unrefined heathens here tell you anything different. Just clean it, garage it, never drive it and you're good!

I was an F-150 guy for YEARS. I made the switch when they raised their prices to crazy levels and cheapened the quality of their trucks with aluminum. I went to trade my last F-150 Lariat lease in at the end and was basically told I was $15K upside down because the truck didn’t hold its value. The truck was in perfect condition so it was 100% a case of market value. I traded it to Toyota for my first Tundra in 2018 and they gave me the best deal possible. In December of 2020 I traded that Tundra, with the negative equity from the Lariat, and they gave me FULL value in my trade to move to a 21 Tundra TRD PRO. That is why I have stayed with Toyota over Ford. They hold their value and they keep their costs reasonable. They lack some tech but you gain so much more in quality of build for the price. If you want to be done with a coke can for a truck that is overpriced and loses its value, the Tundra is your solution for an American made solid truck.

Vehicle reviews are often done by people who are focused on latest and greatest tech wizardry. The same group will also rate vehicles basically on how cool they are. The aren't a substantive review.

Best thing to do is to peruse different forums. Then form your own opinion.

    Also consider resale value.

Another source of info is dashboardlight.com. They have the most comprehensive vehicle quality statistics out there.

Resale is key for me, along with reliability. Fit and finish, build quality of a Toyota is superior compared to Ford. Had two Tacoma's and now my new Tundra, needed more room for my Grand Daughter's car seat. Hey sounds like a good reason, right? I love my new truck, can't stop looking @ her and get compliments everywhere I go. OP, you made the right decision. Here she is @ our cabin. 229877861_4519364504761783_6542768231145_6298be1cdfff5988e76dbe20c90f6142fa6d454d.jpg

I came from a 2011 F150 that I bought new. It had several minor issues during the first 18 months. I had to replace the transmission at around 110K miles. I replaced the truck at around 120K miles. We were moving our daughter from Waco to Birmingham pulling a Uhaul when the truck went into "limp mode". Got off the interstate to shut it down and restart. Got back home and the dealership told me that it maybe "threw a code" but the code would not have been saved in the computer. I took it to a mechanic friend who was checking the codes when the radio started doing weird things. I traded the truck for my used '19 Tundra Limited. I have 5 friends who own Tundras and 4 of them have over 200k miles. The other one is over 300k. I don't miss anything about the F150 and couldn't be happier. And, good call on the 4WD.

I'll depart from the main crowd here a bit. I've been driving pickups mostly for close to 45 years now. Have owned all the major manufacturer models for the most part. Have driven many LSD 2WD pickups as well. With what you describe for your use sounds to me 2WD will work 95% of the time knowing that the other 5% you will need leave it parked. 200#'s plus of sand in the bed and anything less than 6" of snow and you're fine. The biggest issue though with that said will be how front heavy the truck will be. I am on my third Tundra and for the price differences personally believe you would be better served with 4WD. I just traded in a '19 TRD Pro for a '21 Limited DC 4WD as I definitely didn't need the "off-road" capabilities of the Pro. Way overkill unless image is all you are ;looking for. It was a testosterone push that drove me to get it. I like the creature comforts as I am getting older, as hard as that is to admit. Fortunately they gave me 1200 less than what I paid for it (50k) on trade in and sold me the Limited for sticker price (48300). The reviews and Ads on almost all truck comparisons are monetarily driven and you can't believe 1/2 of what you see and only a 1/4 of what you read. The Tundra in my book is hands down the best 1/2 ton rated truck out there. Good luck with whatever decision you make and enjoy the Tundra!!

This. Literally the only thing I miss about my '13 F150.

I drove a 2020 F150 with the 5.0L and a 2020 Silverado 1500 with the 5.3L before driving my Tundra. To me, while the 5.0L felt pretty fast (and I'm sure it is), it, along with the 5.3L is what I'd call 'deceptively' fast. It actually felt slower than it is, if that makes sense. Meanwhile, the 5.7L in the Tundra feels pretty damn fast, especially with Tow/Haul engaged/in 'beast' mode.

I'm one of those who did NOT like all of the advancements/bells and whistles. It's got nothing to do with me not liking technology. I mean, I'm an IT guy; I administrate servers, secure them (and other things) for a living, etc. If I didn't like technology or change, I'm in the wrong field. LOL

BUT if that field has taught me nothing, it's that two things cause issues more than anything else:

    1. Updates. LOL
    2. Constant change. I'm all for new features, but good Lord, they don't need to be debuted every 3rd year.

As such, given the Tundra's reliability, tons of torque down low (love the 4.30 gears), dashboard that has a decent amount of tech and all the 'good' features but none of the time-wasters, and so on, that's what I went with. A year and a few months later I love it just as much as I previously did.

Do I 'regret' not waiting for the 2022? Not really. Keep in mind that in March 2020 (when I bought) we had no clue when the new truck would come out. Now I'm told there may be a TT for the newer truck, and that indeed may be the case...but that doesn't necessarily mean it's better. I know about 5 people who own Tacomas with newer engine; 4 of the 5 tell me that they'd trade it in a heartbeat if Toyota ever brought back the 4.0L the used to have.

Anyways...short answer is - if you *have* to have the absolute most power, or tons of features, then yes, you made a bad choice. Otherwise, you did good.

That's great to hear. Better than having an aluminum can for a truck.

I think you made the mature decision for the more practical reasons, which is why I bought it too. I was about 51% to 49% on choosing the Tundra over a GMC Sierra SLT. The Sierra had more tech features and looked like it was probably more confortable. I never test drove one, though. I didn't test drive my Tundra either. The first time drove it was when I left the dealership. I did drive a 2016 for a few hours like two years before I bought mine, though, with the truck belonging to a co-worker.

I have a 19 Limited Premium crew cab. It is, by far, the nicest vehicle I've ever owned. The Tundra, in my opinion, is the best looking full size truck on the market. The interior looks swag, as my daughter says, and in my opinion it has a nice ride. The resale is insane. The backseat area technically is slightly smaller than the Sierra crew cab, but for some reason it just feels bigger in the Tundra...maybe it's the shape? Every new backseat passenger comments on it. It's got a very proven drivetrain that will likely last a very long time without any major issues. I also like that you don't see a tundra every 5 minutes, as you most certainly do with any of the big three brands. Plus I like the rear window rolling down. ;)

I did get to ride in a Sierra AT4 recently. Fully loaded up, and with the 6.2 engine. I didn't actually like the interior as much as the Tundra. It wasn't especially comfortable, and I really hate the touchscreen display in GM vehicles overall. It looks very Fisher Price to me. I have a buddy who has had 4 different Silverados while I've known him, so I've ridden in three of them (got the trail boss a couple months ago) quite a bit and they don't do a lot for me. I really do like the look of the new Silverado though.

I think, based on no knowledge of you or anything, that you'll find you made the right decision. Sounds like you went with your gut, and the gut is rarely wrong.

Mine is Cement and I love it, but I agree with you. My 16 Mustang GT was the sexiest thing on wheels. Black with black wheels. It was so sexy black that if I didn't keep the tires clean and with sticky shine on them, the car looked dirty even if it was freshly washed. I had to wash it weekly.

I haven't washed the Tundra more than a dozen times in 2 years.

1000% on the Chevy/GMC infotainment display. It's what turned me off first when looking at Suburbans & Silverados. No thanks.

Because of the upgrade to 4WD and the San Antonio production scheduling, I'd have to wait a bit for the black truck I initially ordered. So I changed over to Barcelona Red. I think I'll like it....and if I don't, it'll get traded in on a 2022 next year. Glad to have this nailed down. Thanks guys for making this easier for me.

I will second this statement. For winter driving you don't NEED 4WD. I live in Canada and believe me we get snow here. In the 2 winters I have had my Tundra I have used 4WD a total of ZERO times (the only exception being when I turned it on just to try it out) A good set of snow tires and all good. That said I of course grew up driving in snow. One of my earliest cars being a 1982 Camaro Z28 that I drove no problem with just all season tires for several years. So maybe my expectations are a little different. That said getting the Tundra with 4WD is smart for other reasons as mentioned (resale, weight distribution, handy when you do NEED it). So enjoy your truck when you get it!

Should have gone with MGM though ;)

I appreciate your feedback on the 4WD.

Based on what I've seen in my limited experience with Tundras, I don't see any "wrong" colors for the Tundra. They are all good candidates; some are just more preferred than others. Love the MGM for sure!
